Brimming with both history and natural wonder, Northern Portugal is home to Porto, the city that gave the country its name, as well as the important ancient town of Braga. Also here is Peneda-Gerês, Portugal’s only national park, a gorgeous wilderness area of mountains, gorges, water features and wildlife. Many picturesque villages and manor houses dot the countryside. Two areas are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alto Douro Wine Region, and the Paleolithic rock art in the Côa Valley.

In the heart of the city, My Ribeira encourages you to unveil the secrets of Porto, fall in love with its history, discover its neighborhoods, explore narrow paths and steps, get to meet the people, know bars and restaurants that don’t show up in tourist guides, taste their wines and delicacies. You just have to step outside the door to be embraced by the river and feel the rattle of the most emblematic part of the city with the advantage of being a stroll away from the main touristic references. This is the perfect place to enjoy the charm and charisma of Porto, where everything, including the beach, is near.
This was the second time I stayed here and it’s still wonderful! Perfect location near the bridge and directly accessible to all old city locations by walking. Many Americans would say it’s a small space but I’d give traveled in Europe it is quite spacious. The front desk is extremely helpful. Be prepared for stairs - as Americans we tend to pack big. This really is the best place in Porto!

The Casa da Portela de Sampriz was more than we could hope for. Situated just outside of Penedes- Geres National Park, we were surround by amazing natural beauty. The Casa da Portela looked out upon incredible views. The manor is beautiful, authentic, decorated with pieces that have served generations. The rooms honor the past while creating a sense of serenity and calm with modern comforts. The hostess provided us with wonderful recommendations and great maps for hiking. Our walks were filled with great appreciation of the beauty of the area. As I am nervous on small roads at night, we would enjoy an evening snack (our own) with one of the wines they provided. There is a wonderful gathering room where one can play games (we did), chat, or watch TV. One evening we were able to arrange dinner on site. The kindness of the owner and the attention by the staff given to every detail make this memorable. Had we known how amazing this would be we would have booked 4 nights instead of three. We were so very sad to leave and cannot imagine anything living up to this experience.

Located in the heart of the old town this hotel was clean, quiet and comfortable. Everything you need is steps away. There is no lift, but if you’re walking the Camino, that should be no problem. Great value.

We stayed at House Mint for a week in the middle of July. This beautiful holiday home is located outside a small village near Fafe. The farm buildings and house have been converted into 5 holiday homes of various sizes. House Mint is a double height apartment with the living room, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor and a mezzanine bedroom. The apartment has been constructed from high quality materials and is beautifully equipped including towelling robes, toiletries and pool towels. The swimming pool is just across the grass and comes with very comfortable waterproof bean bags, great for total relaxation. The porch outside the apartment is in the shade from midday, ideal for those who want a break from the sun. We were surprised to find that the apartment had maid service. Daniela, who welcomed us to the property, came in daily to make the bed and clean the apartment. She was so friendly and we loved the days when she left slices of cake and glasses of port for us, such a nice touch. The whole complex is beautifully maintained with a fountain and pond in the courtyard creating a lovely ambiance when you walk through from the shaded parking area. There are views over the surrounding countryside and the local town of Fafe is well supplied with good supermarkets for easy shopping. We had a great day out including a river trip in Porto , about an hour away by car and we also enjoyed visiting Guimarães with its stunning castle. This was one of the best holiday apartments we have ever rented and we loved it.

It is a charming place and must be nice during the summer season, however it is not a winter stay. The house is old without heat. EVEN THOUGH the owner states on more than one online that there is heat. The heat is two propane gas portables that we were told had to last 2 weeks - though the climate turned on us and we were sleeping in 40 degree temperatures during the night. We could see the vapor of our breath. Needless to say the tanks only lasted 1 week even though we only had it on for about 2 hours in the mornings and about the same in the evening when we got home (I had booked and paid for one month with the possibility of extending to two months). It was too dangerous to have them on during the night. Once they ran out we were told to go to the gas station ourselves and that we would have to pay for any ensuing tanks! I had paid 1,100 for off season which for a small beach town in Portugal was more than a rented apartment with central heat (to which I then transferred). We found another place and in the meanwhile the owner did not even offer to return the money for the weeks unused. He did pay for the first change of tanks I think because he felt guilty. In the summer it must be completely different. There is no need for temperature control and he has a beautiful friendly dog and the shared space is very sweet. You might need a car to go to the beach. A bike would do it. There is always taxi. Cleaning service is available and the owner tried to do other things to be helpful.

You can go there if you are looking for a quiet stay. Host are lovely and rooms are nice. There is a parking for cars and a swimming pool. You can cook inside your cottage. Air conditioned works fine. If you want to have breakfast with other members you can join in a common room with several facilities.

The family who run this pace are as good as it gets, nothing is to much trouble for them, we stopped for the night en route from Porto to Santander and although the only ones there the lady offered to cook us dinner, she was happy to get up early to give us breakfast and after we went out to take a look at the medieval castle close by we returned to a beautiful warm room as she had nipped in and put the heating on, the only downside is that there are no tea/coffee making facility in the room and there are no TV's, although that does not bother us I know a lot of people like one and to be honest I sometimes use a usb pensitick to watch a movie.

Fomos bem recebidos pela proprietária. Pessoa simpatia e sempre disponível. Casa com todas as comodidades necessárias à uma estadia agradável. Situada numa aldeia típica, onde o ar dá serra de manhã nos faz sentir bem.

A beautifully furnished, self contained apartment (no. 2). Luiz is a wonderfully warm and inviting host. I felt like I was staying with my parents (and they weren't there :D) The apartment is so close to the beach and the tram. Supermarkets and cafés/restaurants are nearby. The only negatives, were the Wi-Fi was a little weak at times, and we ran out of hot water quickly. If you need help, he may not always be in the office, but he responds to emails promptly. Overall, we really enjoyed our time in Porto and I would highly recommend Luiz' apartments.
