My husband and I loved staying here. We found this place last minute after our Airbnb reservation fell through. The woman who runs it has been so sweet. We both have been under the weather since arriving in Paris and she has been so motherly. She has gone above and beyond what would of been necessary, to make our stay here as enjoyable as possible. My husband didn't make it down to breakfast in the morning and she sent up a tray for him with enough food for three people. She then brought us sushi to our room for dinner because she had noticed we had not left it all day. She's even been trying so hard to speak to us in English, although she speaks very little. We loved our stay at the Paris Star.

Amazing service and very friendly staff would recommend to any friend. Thank you. They helped us get in to our place early and they helped us weigh our things for a follow on plane ride, and they were very quick to respond to anything we needed.

I visited Paris late in June 2017 for a family reunion and chose to stay at L’Eden because it’s conveniently close to my sister’s house. I stayed for two nights before leaving Paris for a week, then again two nights before returning to the USA. For the first stay, I was given the studio upstairs on the left side of the house. Here are some observations: 1. Check in: the owner wasn’t available onsite and we had to make multiple phone calls before agreeing that she would leave house and room keys at some hidden place for me to pick up and let myself in. Bad. 2. Amenities: the room and the common breakfast room are well equipped and stocked with cereals, breakfast fruits and cookies. Okay. 3. Room condition: clean. There was a heat wave in late June. The room wasn’t equipped with any air conditioning equipment nor any fan. (Bad) The tiny bathroom has a tiny shower that spills water at the bottom of the door. This could create some safety hazards as people could slip and fall. Some soap and shampoo was provided, but in insufficient quantities. (Bad) Many of the lights weren’t working. (Bad) There was a mini refrigerator that was unplugged; I took a look inside: it was moldy. (BAD) For the second stay, I was given the studio upstairs on the right side of the house. Observations: 1. I did get to meet the owner after agreeing on a time. 2. Room condition: at first glance, pretty clean and tidy. This room has one additional window and a small fan. (Okay) The bathroom is even tinier than the previous room; the shower door handle was partially broken and water leaks even worse from the bottom of the door. Same tiny quantities of soap and shampoo. (Bad) Returning late at night, I turned the blanket down and noticed a strong smell of old body odor and old unwashed linen. I promptly threw the blanket to the floor. There are two sets of pillows, large and small. The large pillows also had a strong smell of unwashed body and unwashed linen. These things must haven’t been laundered in many months of hard use. (Ultra bad) The property itself is nice and has private parking. That’s why I did not give it a one-star rating.

Why would you want to stay in this exact location in Paris? Not sure but I landed there to attend a business meeting nearby and thought this was cheap and so worth a punt. The hotel is located 5 mins walk from the Gentilly RER stop that was a direct ~45 min journey from Paris CDG airport, so very convenient. My fault for not finding out that this is in fact a Portuguese restaurant with 9 rooms attached. That’s what the Marinha Hotel is; a restaurant with a few rooms. Found this out when I arrived one Sunday evening with a colleague after travelling from Bristol airport. We were delayed and hungry when we checked in at 10.15pm. Area was restaurant/bar barren as far as we could see so almost resorted to early night with empty supper. But no, super friendly staff had other ideas and just told us to drop our stuff in our room and pop into the restaurant for some food. This what we did and we had a great meal for a very decent price. Their stone cooked steak was a real treat but not sure my digestive system appreciated all the hard work it had to do then from 1am to waking up time. The raw steak was loaded on to a VERY hot marble stone that sizzled away while you watched your meat cooking. You can then choose between raw and black. All in all for around €40 each we had a couple of beers, shared a bottle of decent Alentejo Red and had a decent meal. They will do you a breakfast in the restaurant for €4.50 and this was fine- coffee, croissant, toast and ham. Fine to set you off into the streets. The room was OK for the price (€66 a night). They overlook a fairly busy couple of streets that wakes up early, and they are generally comfortable. The shower unit is for thin people only otherwise if you manage to get in dry I doubt that you will slip out wet unless you refrain from rinsing the soap off your body. Very confined. The other issue was the location of the large mirror on the door leading out to the corridor. Gave me the heeby jeebies as I kept thinking there was someone else in the room with me! I had a hell of a fright when I glanced sight of a naked man crossing from the shower. It was me. Then there was the lock to the door of room 103. I had trouble getting in and out and brute force was the only way to unlock it. No good for the weak and I left my door unlocked in the night in case of emergency and me getting stuck in my bedroom. They need to sort this out; not sure about the other doors and my colleague had no complaints regarding his door. For the price I paid, this was great value and the staff were all great, even the poor barmaid that resorted to mopping around our feet one evening rather than turfing us out. If I go again it will be a Friday so I can hit the Marinha Hotel Disco.

I had the shocking experience of staying in Le Grand Albert room 314 on the 28th and 29th May. The box sized room was a pit of dust mites and other bugs. I have bug bites on my face and neck as a consequence. My advice is to avoid at all times. It's a filthy place.

It's easy to imagine the atmosphere it once must have had, but no more. The penthouse terrace is large, but has an overload of moldy couches on it. There is no air-conditioning, which makes it almost impossible to sleep. The 'family room' is a dungeon-like space with no windows (god forbid there is ever a fire in the hallway, you'd be trapped). Same for the 'extra' room for the penthouse, also too small to be called a room. Parking, breakfast and staff are nice, but no English. Not worth the price, in need of a major overhaul to get back to what it once must have been.

I have no idea how to rate Chez Marile, it has absolutely everything. The usual anecdotes of "gem" and "treasure off the tourist map" really do not apply. I have stayed in many hotels, B&Bs, self catering and cottages and none is comparable. Their 9.8 rating is absolutely 100% deserved. Some accolades - furniture exceptional, breakfast really out of this world, Christine is the perfect host, she is there to make things happen, and at the same time gives you your privacy ; the fittings in the bathroom I leave for those visitors to discover on their own. Unique is probably the best I can do, I have never seen this before, EVER, bedrooms (in my case 2 of them to choose from) - always serviced daily and tidied up In short, a stay you are sure to remember
