10 Top-Rated Bed and Breakfast Inns in Stockholm

April 28, 2023 Phylicia Berquist

Often referred to as the Venice of the North, Stockholm never fails to wow both visitors and locals with its impressive cityscape spread over 14 different islands. While being the largest city in Scandinavia, it has successfully preserved its green core and struck the right balance between modern and traditional architecture, infused with luscious parks and forests. It's convenient to explore the central islands by foot, by bike, or as part of a boat tour; but don’t rush and do as the locals do: always save time for a fika (coffee and cake) in a local coffee shop.

Avoid This Place, It's Filthy!

We thought it would be fun to stay in a ship and chose this place as our base in Stockholm. We couldn't have been more wrong! The communal showers/toilets are absolutely filthy and disgusting. It seems that they haven't been cleaned since the ship was commissioned. Swedish health authorities absoluely need to inspect this place ASAP. The staff do not care at all and they don't seem to be hospitable unlike most Swedish people we encountered. The furniture is breaking, the carpet floor is hideous. The only positive thing I can say is that the price is ok for Stockholm standarts and it's 10-15 minutes walking distance to Gamla Stan. Other than that, this place should be burned for decontamination. Stay away from here!

Home from home

Reviewed By Iain W

You can stay at those well known chains of hotels with their exactly proportioned rooms and exactly duplicated furnishings and that cater to defined guest budgets all expressed in algorithms probably these days, or you can find yourself a home from home where you are getting what you hoped for at a price that you can afford. Steering that choice these days has become even more problematic as hotels find it increasingly difficult to employ reliable staff at all levels and costs continue to rise. It’s a poor prognosis with a discouraging theme. Bigger hotels have to play to an economy off scale on their costs, higher prices and less staff to take care of guests resulting in mistakes, lack of care of the properties and a spiral of dissatisfied guests. A nightmare. One way out of this for potential hotel guests is to simply avoid the behemoths no matter how many stars they have or what facilities they boast. At the end of the day you need a home from home, you need it at an affordable price and hopefully located where you can get all the benefits you were anticipating in the place to which you are traveling. Post pandemic (if what they say is true) the flood gates have opened for the tourist season so they say and hotels will be benefiting from that. How well are they coping? Well in the case of Hornsgaten Hotel the best description would be riding the wave. This is a small scale (not boutique) very central in Stockholm surrounded by foodie heavens and some shopping that is a conversion of one of the old huge apartments which once abounded here a hundred years ago. It’s a charming place with a basic but functional renovation, including all-new bathrooms and plumbing, a sensible layout with the rooms all on one level and a sort of hostel-like feel to it although it lacks the disadvantages of strict rules. This is one for adults, children welcome, and unusually run by the owner Clara and husband on a daily basis which adds to the welcoming atmosphere. The rooms are not huge but adequate and each of them said to be individually furnished. I chose a two bedroom variant with a private bathroom but some of the other rooms were sharing bathrooms and toilets. Hence the hostelry feel. But it is all done in an incredibly charming way, smiles and pleasantries and good advice. Concern for your comfort, and after my very recent face off with another hotel chain over double charging me at one hotel and triple charging me at another, it was a blast of warm and pleasant feeling that someone gave a hoot about me as a guest. Breakfast was self-service Swedish style and as already mentioned you are not going to starve in this area of Stockholm with an incredibly well-serviced variety of tastes and culinary styles (eleven in the block where the hotel is) available in a wide price range. So if your taste is for the slightly more human approach to living as a guest in a hotel and you like the company of other people I cannot recommend Horngaten too highly and my only hope is that success does not spoil the winning formula. And by the way, for some reason there is a possibility your sleep may be disturbed not by traffic noise but by the endless dub coming from some sort of exotic club nearby. Take ear plugs. And like many hotels in Sweden, there is no AC so don’t be disappointed if it gets a bit warm in the short summer weeks when all you are offered is a fan. Thats all part of the charm.

Found this to be in a great location. We were going to a concert and this was located in the same complex - also, it was a short walk to get to the 'Subway' which cost about £3 to get to the centre of Stockholm. Right outside your door is a large activity centre with lots going on, including curling, shuffleboard, pool, bowling and lots more. Lots of pubs/restaurants included here as well. Go out and across the street and the arenas are based here with more restaurants, and even a little shopping mall with a supermarket. Subway is right across the street if you're looking for somewhere cheap to eat as well (though we had some difficulty getting them to understand we wanted milk in our tea lol). Breakfast was included and had a couple of hot items and a small buffet that was more continental style.

The food here is amazing! The just got a new head chef is from France that cooks everything organic and locally grown! The vibe is super chill and casual with good prices but with a high dining food level. During covid they also have separate rooms that you can rent to have dinner with just your friends and family and still be private! There is also a wine bar with nature wines and a regular bar with live music next to the restaurant. The location is lovely and right next to the water! Go there and check it out!

I wish I could leave a negative star. Do yourself a favor and run far far away from this dump . literal dump as when we checked in there was poop marks in the toilet.....sick. We came after a long day of traveling and just needed to get some sleep. My mom had a flight back to America the next morning and it was so important for her to get some rest. About an hour into being in bed we found ourselves shaking from how cold it was in the room. I went to turn up the heat and the heater was clearly not working. I called reception at 9:58pm and someone came with a space heater the size of my arm and tried to tamper with the heater. The heater knob then fell off and he said oh yeah this is broken and that "nothing could be done about it tonight" I plugged in the space heater and put it a cm away from my face and couldnt even feel it working. we wrapped ourselves in blankets and hats and tried to get some much needed rest but we maybe slept a solid 30 min we decided to get out of this dump as soon as possible and when I went to check out I asked to talk to a manager about our terrible experience and was told that wouldnt be possible as it was the weekend and that they would email me. the manager then emailed me later that day. I asked for a refund or partial refund for the god awful stay at this dump hole and was told that I DID NOT DO ENOUGH TO ASK FOR MORE HEATERS LOL WHAT? and that I should have taken more steps to make my stay more enjoyable. LOL blaming the customer really works well for them I guess. and they SOOOO graciously offered me 20% off my next stay.... my next stay there will be over my dead body so thanks but no thanks --- RUN RUN AWAY.

The place is new and relatively clean. Would recommend it if you need to be in this area and the budget is right. Location is right next to a supermarket, pharmacy and metro station.

Not a hotel as I see it, 10 - 15 rooms in a basement with area in the middle where they serve breakfast. No reception, I got an SMS with a code for the entrance and to the room, worked fine however more like renting a room. The room was OK and clean, however a little bit strange to be in a basement and a window up under the ceiling. The location is good, only a short walk from the subway station.
