Are you fed up with searching for the right combination of quality and value when staying in beautiful Scarborough? Look no further than the Raincliffe. We are a top graded licensed small hotel/guesthouse ten minutes walk to the Spa, south beach, theatres with the town and museums also close by. We offer excellent accommodation, consistently high standards with comfortable beds, spotless en-suites, high quality food and most importantly a warm, genuine welcome. Consistently positively reviewed on many accommodation websites we welcome well behaved children over 8 years but regret that we do not allow stag or hen parties and pets.
we were a family of 9 between 2 family rooms. spent 3 nights just before the jubilee weekend here as our base for doing all things Scarbados. perfect location, parking no problem (you get a pass £1 per day to use outside the hotel and surrounding roads) Vicky and her husband were very hospitable and the lass helping with breakfast too. Breakfast was fabulous all requirements catered for. They just need a heads up the night before on basic things like black pudding and pancakes to minimise waste, which in the current climate is understandable. we used the Bar and pool table that is a nice little communal area. The rooms were perfect for us as we were out all day so not much lounging around had. Would I return.....yes, we've provisionally booked for next year. thanks ?

This hotel has quirky decor. We stayed in a small double seaview room, and found it to be more spacious than expected. The room comes complete with a mini fridge containing a small bottle of milk and complimentary water. (Also a chargeable range of snacks and drinks.) It wise to note that the bathrooms are without ventilation, but the shower was great. The restaurant is excellent We enjoyed the continental breakfast selection that had something to suit everyone We also dined here, and enjoyed our meal.. The Retreat was a great place to chill, and we enjoy the complimentary tea and cake. (Please note are dog lovers not owners.) But we love this hotel.

My partner, myself and our little dog Ella have just returned from a fabulous 3 night stay at Mansion House and from the moment we walked in we were made to feel most welcome. The room was spacious, the sea view stunning, it was spotless with no trace of any previous dogs having been in there. There was a water bowl and towel placed out for Ella and we had everyting we could possibly need including luxury bath robes. On our first evening we went into the lounge, which is a lovely room, and used the honesty bar which was very well stocked and easy to use we met a lovely couple in there and had a wonderful evening. We both woke the following morning having had a wonderful nights sleep, the mattress was luxurious I wish I had asked what make it was. The breakfast was amazing the produce used is outstanding and such a wonderful choice. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble, this was definatley one of the best breakfast experience I have had. Thank you all soo much for a wonderful stay and we will definatley be back. Best wishes Emma, Chris and Ella ps Ella had the best time xx

My Partner and I went for dinner at the plough at the start of the jubilee bank holiday weekend. The srevice from all of the staff was brilliant and the food was exceptional. The beef short rib is a must try and the bar staff mix a lovely whisky sour. We will be back!

Situated on the beautiful North Yorkshire Coast between Scarborough and Filey the village of Cayton is mentioned in the Domesday book as Caitune and there is no doubt that it existed many years prior 1066. Standing next to the 12th Century church in the heart of this village is the former ‘Smithy’ and ‘Inn’. For more than 200 years the former cottages on the corner of Church Lane and Main Street have been of service to locals and travellers alike with the resident blacksmith shoeing horses and offering hospitality. After an extensive 3 year renovation project our family have breathed life into this historic site and are proud to be able to open the doors to welcome guests once more. We believe the hospitality of an era long since gone combined with the unashamed luxury, modern conveniences and high end comforts required by today’s guests bring together a new standard of boutique experience to the area.
We have stayed in various rooms in the main building, all of which are superb. Having got a puppy in the New Year we decided to book a 3-night stay in The Stables which is a dog friendly room. This surpassed all our expectations - the room is huge and luxurious and we can’t recommend it enough to anyone considering a stay at The Farrier, whether accompanied by a dog or not. Breakfast was as fabulous as ever, as were our meals in the restaurant each evening. Enzo loved his treats and new toy too. A huge thanks to Team Farrier from Mel, Craig (and Enzo the Whippet!)

As of June 2018 The Duke of York is now owned and operated by Historic Hotels and Properties Ltd and is no longer family owned and run.
We checked in about 2pm. Guy seemed nice enough but didn't introduce himself or ask to see if we had stayed before. This is my 3rd visit and I didn't need the run down, but anyway got to the deluxe double room with balcony, good 1st impressions, spacious and clean. Almost immediately we did notice a high amount of extension cables (6) plugged into other extension cables. This is a fire hazard. Quite worrying tbh. The fridge turned itself on and off loudly with a click, we think due to the extension. They was an old grubby man's shirt with stains on behind the headboard (we wonder how long it had been there) we then questioned the cleaning standards and found a lot of dust in certain areas. The next big problem was that the radiator was on constantly day and night, with no way of turning it off and the room was boiling, we had trouble sleeping it was that hot as it was not viable to leave the patio doors open as we slept as there was guests in the room next door with their balcony attached to ours, so we felt it was not safe to do so.. We had the small window open but it was like a sauna and I started to feel unwell. So I had to get up and sit with the door open to let air in before closing it again to sleep. The tv didn’t work for a while we tried everything it wouldn’t turn on, so we put a new battery in the remote and it worked. There doesn’t seem to be anyone around for maintenance or cleaning as no one came to our room in 2 days to ask if we were okay for towels etc. Did have a big king bed which was nice, but the bath plug provided wasn’t the correct size and in the end it got stuck. We had to use some tweezers to pull it out… carpet near bathroom pulled up which is a tripping hazard. Balcony maintenance also needs looking at, it’s a wonderful view and location but upkeep is a must when it comes to seagull poo! We stayed 2 nights, the first night was great peaceful and enjoyable. However, the second night before leaving - a family checked into the family room above us, and my god the noise! There should be something on the website or when booking the room that at least makes you aware that you will be below a family room as the noise was unacceptable. We went outside the kids school holidays intending to avoid this kind of situation. This is also a word to families who take their kids on holiday that it is not just you who is on a break and please teach your children not to run across the floor and jump from the beds. It sounded like they were going to fall through to us, it was so loud we couldn’t even watch tv. If that was our first night here we would have left and asked for a refund. It’s not hard to be considerate of other people, but unfortunately it seems some people lack the means. Couldn’t complain as no one on site from 5. Having kids doesn’t mean that other people have to put up with their behaviour. I’d like to add this wasn’t your expected footsteps it was banging, stomping with a whallop and constant running which then woke up at 6:30am the following morning aswell. So we ended up leaving the key in the office at 8am as again, no one was present for check out (even though booking.com says between 6-10) and left. The breakfast, I know each time I’ve visited there’s been no takers me included as the price is extortion. We pay £180 for 2 nights so don’t expect to be hit with £40 more for breakfast. Tip for anyone booking just a few yards up the road is “cafe on the corner” they do a great breakfast and will come under £10 for 2 people. Another thing that struck me as strange is that when the guy was present in the office, is that when we came back to the room and he heard us coming in the front door he would come out to let us in everytime? We are more than capable of using the key? Felt a bit odd that he felt the need to do this. We are unsure if we would return just mainly due to the family room situation that occurred but still undecided as don’t get me wrong the location and general look of the place is good. It’s just minor touch ups needed and a bit more clarity on who’s who and how the place is run.

Just had a lovely 4 night stay with my husband and 2 young children. Our room was lovely, the beds very comfortable and had great coffee and tea making facilities. Breakfast was lovely and extensive and the staff were so attentive, especially with my 2 little girls who were made to feel very special with their own pot of hot chocolate each morning. It made them feel very grown up! We had our last breakfast on the jubilee Bank Holiday and had special jubilee chocolates at our table which was a really nice touch! We would definitely stay here again next time we visit Scarborough.

This was our second 2 night visit to The Blacksmith Arms, lovely traditional pub, the staff were all extremely welcoming and friendly. We stayed in the old smithy buildings the first time and were upgraded to room 6 in the main building on this occasion. Lovely room with a four poster bed, well appointed, the only issue was the shower, lacked power and we were unable to control the very hot temperature. We ate in the pub on both nights the food and service were first class and we will certainly return in the future. Thank you Tony and all the team we certainly enjoyed our stay.
