May 5, 2023 Leonardo Torrence

With a rich pre-Colombian history, Ecuador's capital was founded on the ruins of an Incan city but offers everything a modern traveler might need. It remains the least-altered historic center in Latin America and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Quito’s important sites include baroque gems like San Francisco and Santo Domingo monasteries, as well as La Compañía church and college. This huge city sprawls across a breathtaking Andean valley surrounded by volcanic peaks.

The best hospitality

Stayed here on the night we arrived in Quito, and in between our visits to other parts of Ecuador. We arrived here at 1am and left early in the morning, they allowed the late arrival and also packed us lunch for our hike the next day. We came back after we visited Mindo, they allowed us to leave our luggage free of charge while we went to Galapagos. When we came back from Galapagos our luggage was safe and at the hotel. They are very kind, provide great breakfast, the rooms are clean, and comfortable, the hotel is located in a great location within the La Floresta neighborhood. I'd 1000% recommend Casa Aliso!

The Secret Garden Cotopaxi

Katherine and Tarquin, the owners/creators of The Secret Garden Quito, have moved to the countryside where they have been building their dream home and hostel. It's spectacular mountain scenery, it's a beautiful traditional lodge made of mud bricks and thatched roof, it's an eco-friendly self sufficiency project, it's great homegrown herbs and spices, with an exquisite home style food, it's considered an adventure center and it's a relaxation center.

Best Hostel we have ever stayed in.

Even though the weather wasnt really on our side and it rained half of the time the stay in Secret Garden Cotopaxi was mesmerizing. The view in the morning when the sky is clear is like a romantic painting. The staff is super nice and helpful. Eventhough the price seems a little high at first, we got everything included in it. We got fed 4 times a day and had two incredibly beautifoul hikes included in the price. Also they organize you a lot of other hikes or activities, like horse back riding through the Cotopaxi National Park or a Hike to the Cotopaxi Base Camp with the option to downhill on a mountain bike from there. We can recommend this Hostel to everybody who is up for an adventure but also for those who want to have a rest in the Shire with no connection whatsoever to the outside, sitting at the fire, playing cards or read a book and drink mulled Wine with it. Thanks for the lovely time and hope to see you again!

We had 8 nights in Casa Gardenia sandwiched between a 16 day Galapagos holiday. The hotel is very comfortable and elegantly designed. Andres is a superb host with lots of advice and information. He set us up with a taxi driver who acted as a guide and took us to many places for very reasonable charge. The hotel is a short walk to the main attractions in the historical centre. accommodation was clean and comfortable. It was the only place we stayed in Ecuador that had coffee and tea available all day. I would recommend this place for a stay in Quito.

Casa San Marcos by Prima Collection

Casa San Marcos Hotel by Prima Collection is located in the San Marcos neighborhood, in the Historic Center of Quito. The main axis of the neighborhood is Calle Junín, which was previously called “San Marcos”. Among the important buildings that make up this traditional neighborhood, we find the Monastery of Santa Catalina, the Church of San Marcos and civil buildings of an important historical heritage. In addition, it is worth mentioning that many of the characters that inhabited them had great importance in the political, historical, social, cultural and religious events of our city and our country. San Marcos maintains its residential and now cultural vocation with institutions such as the Museum of Architecture, the Manuela Sáenz Museum, Casa San Marcos, and the Watercolor Museum, as well as cozy restaurants and galleries. Our house is set in a picturesque 17th century building located in the Historic Center of Quito, 500 meters from the Plaza de la Independencia, 200 meters from the Bolívar Theater, 700 meters from the Museum of Colonial Art and 3 km from the station. Chimbacalle train, in short, is a great option for travelers interested in architecture, churches and history.

Staff was great. Hotle is located easy walk to central part of town. Rooms were nice and comfortable. Two issues. One the transport to the airport set up by the hotel was a rip off. We were in a group of people and one paid for all and then another paid for all. Once we knew that we asked the driver for the difference of a double payment and a large tip. The driver lied and said I onoy got paid once. So he made out with 120 dollars when teh trip was to be 50 dollars. Secondly, we ate dinner and watched a dance at the hotel . Was told the dance would be 20 a person and dinner was 20 a person We were charged 30 for the dinner and 30 for the dance. The dinner was OK, but not worth 30 dollars a person. The dance was ok too but 30 dollars a person for 20 minutes?
