Wales' spectacular scenic rural heartland, and the site of Brecon Beacons National Park, Powys is a lush land of verdant mountain valleys, craggy caves and quirky towns. The staunchly nationalistic area offers appealing outdoors opportunities. Canter on horseback through the rugged Brecon Beacons mountain range. Walk or cycle the charming valleys. We stayed here for two nights with friends whilst decorating our recently acquired holiday lodge in Pennal. What an absolute treat!! It was everything we needed and could have wished for after a long busy day…. cosy warm surroundings, tasty pub food served until 8, good wine and beer, warm friendly staff and comfortable rooms. The breakfast was perfect too. Our host Rhys made it extra special so thank you. We will be back very soon.

Called in for lunch on Friday 2nd June. Very busy but queued up patiently in line for 15 minutes to order our food and drinks. When we reached the front of the line to be served we were asked quite abruptly if we were with the car rally. When i said no the barmaid then told me i could wait and proceeded to shout down the line " is anyone with the car rally ? Would you like to place your order next "....and proceeded to bring people at the back of the queue to the front. the car rally had not pre booked lunch ahead of time and had turned up un announced. as i heard the conversations between the guests when they were trying to sit together. They were all paying individually and not as a group which is why we waited so long to order. to say i was gobsmacked and completely embarrassed is an understatement. I immediately left as i could not believe the rudeness directed at myself and the other people also waiting patiently to be served. My partner and i have worked in hospitality for many years and could not quite believe this happened. Totally unacceptable.

Let me start with my gripe! At breakfast, the morning after our stay a lady called Tina (perhaps the owner) came into the room to engage with the guests. There were three tables of guests including my table. Tina with great warmth engaged with table one. Have a good five minute conversation with them and being very engaging. She then moved to table two, again showing great warmth and attention to her guests. Following her conversation with table two, she turned, looked at our table and walked out of the room!! Not even a basic ‘good morning’. Perhaps Tina assumed that because we were brown we could not speak English!! Even my teenage son commented “she ignored the brown table!” With regards to our accommodation it was great. We had room one. A nicely presented room and a spotlessly clean bathroom. The one issue we had was the heating was on full blast and we were unable to turn it down or off from the radiator no matter which way we turned the control on the radiator. This made the room uncomfortably hot but luckily we found a fan in the cupboard so put this on to counter the heat and it made the temperature more bearable when sleeping. The car park was fun to get into. Like a crystal maze challenge but simple when following the precise instructions given. Overall a fantastic room and great breakfast. The only blip was the blatant ignorance/racism shown by Tina. Maybe Tina could educate herself.

The place is totally unique and filled with Unique the Art of the amazing artist Andrew Logan (you must also visit the Museum down the Road), it is like staying in an Art Gallery! My partner booked the hotel for my birthday and we had the most delightful experience. The food was amazing and portion very generous and well seasoned. (I am French so very particular about my food) I had the double duck and my partner the Venison and the meat was both local and tender. The service was also great and very friendly. The waitress also had a candle on my rocky mountain dessert when she knew it was my birthday which felt like a very thoughtful attention. The full English Breakfast was also delicious and big portion. The room was cosy, good heating temperature, the bathroom brand new with a perfectly functioning shower which felt like a luxury experience, we would definitely recommend to friend to stay to discover Wales but you may not end up living the Hotel!

We stayed here via a friends recommendation when visiting the showground. Absolutely spot on! Immaculately clean, comfortable and a lovely welcome. The breakfast was something else! Will definitely be a regular for us when in the area.

Bryncelyn Guesthouse, in beautiful Llanwrtyd Wells, is a 4 star family run guest house providing ideal accommodation while attending one of the local festivals either here in Llanwrtyd Wells or in the nearby towns of Builth Wells and Llandovery. All rooms are either ensuite or have private bathrooms. Guest rooms have TV, DVD player and tea & coffee making facilities. We are in the heart of the smallest town in Britain (with a population of 600) with restaurants, pubs and shops on the doorstep. We have offroad parking for our guests. Price includes full breakfast, either Welsh or the option of a Continental. The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside with rolling hills and it's famous for wacky events such as World Championship Bog Snorkeling and Man versus Horse Marathon.
My 91 mother and I have just returned from 3 nights at Bryncelyn. We had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to come back. Our rooms (2 interlinking rooms sharing a modern en-suite with walk-in shower) were spacious and very comfortable. Lorna and Ian were the friendliest, most helpful hosts you could wish for. The breakfasts are delicious and included warms croissants, fresh fruit salad and full cooked breakfasts with vegetarian and vegan options. Being able to arrange to have an evening meal at Bryncelyn is an added bonus and Lorna is an excellent cook.

"Old World charm in the Welsh Borders..." The Radnorshire Arms is a warm and welcoming, family run hotel which lies at the heart of the old county town of Radnorshire, Presteigne (Llanandras in Welsh, meaning ‘the church of St Andrew’). Scant yards from the English border and nestled amidst rolling hills and wonderful open countryside, this Grade II listed building, with its wealth of original exposed beams and timber panelled walls, exudes an atmosphere of luxurious comfort and classic Jacobean elegance. The hotel today is as rich in amenities as its 16th century structure is in history. With 18 rooms, all fully equipped to the highest standards, 2 restaurants, a residents’ lounge, traditional bar and large garden, The Radnorshire Arms Hotel can accommodate individuals, couples, families and larger groups in relaxed and spacious surroundings.
Food was good at a reasonable price. Good selection of dishes. Service was OK albeit at bit haphazard. But i enjoyed it and it was the best place yet in the Ludlow area. Hotel was atmospheric, the gardens very nice. It was supposedly built in the 17th century but to my eye looked more like 19th - although parts could easily be that old.
