The town that gave the country (and port wine) its very name, Porto is Portugal’s second-largest metropolis after Lisbon. Sometimes called Oporto, it's an age-old city that has one foot firmly in the industrial present. The old town, centered at Ribeira, was built on the hills overlooking the Douro River, and today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 14th-century São Francisco church is a main attraction, as are the local port wine cellars, mostly located across the river at Vila Nova de Gaia.

Bienvenue Chez Vous - Welcome to your Home in Porto. In 2008, we discovered the ruin that stole our hearts. Some 5 years of loving restoration later, our luxury Maison, Canto De Luz opened to the public. Hiding behind the traditional facade of an elegant merchant townhouse in the centre of the Old Town is a beautiful soaring modern atrium that welcomes you, our friends and guests, to your home from home here in Porto. The homemade breakfast at Canto De Luz has become the stuff of Porto and Tripadvisor folklore! The menu, which changes daily and is wherever possible organic, uses freshly sourced local ingredients from Porto's markets, served to you at your table - It's a treat to behold. The whole team are very excited to share their passion for Porto, matched by the desire to welcome people from all over the world Chez Vous a Porto. Many of our guests have become friends who come and stay again and again. We would love you to join them. À bientôt !
We loved our stay at Canto de Luz! From the first moment we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff, able to leave our luggage to walk around the city before check-in, and kindly offered complimentary coffees and Pastel de Nata. The room is beautiful and well-appointed and accommodated our family of 3 perfectly with the built-in bed nook for our son. The mattress was a little too firm for my preference, but we all slept well. The daily included breakfast was a highlight of our stay. The staff is so gracious and accommodating and the food is delicious. We were served daily fresh cut fruit, a rotating selection of breads and pastries from a local bakery, specialty coffees, fresh-squeezed juice, and a choice of cooked-to-order eggs, yogurt, and/or Iberian ham and cheeses. The presentation is Insta-worthy and dining areas are lovely and comfortable. The location is very convenient to walk to the historical attractions, restaurants, etc. The entire staff was exceptional and happy to give recommendations or help in any way. Also, did I mention there’s a wine dispenser?! Highly recommend!

Oh my oh my, a hidden gem on the backstreets of Porto. From the minute my husband & I got there at 10pm on a lovely warm Friday evening it was jaw dropping. We met our parents who had travelled from Galicia and we sat out till midnight just chatting and taking the evening view of a floodlit castle..breathtaking…our only concern were the steps up to the breakfast room (which was stunning & a chandelier to die for) I am disabled & my father in law is not at ease with his legs at present and there were a lot of steps but we managed. (There is no lift in the main building) other than that, absolutely no complaints whatsoever….

Nestled in the heart of historical Oporto, the Guest House Douro offers a unique and personal experience. It is the first and only guesthouse on Oporto's waterfront. Part of UNESCO's World Heritage Site, the G.H.D. enjoys breathtaking vistas. All rooms offer direct views, either of the Douro river, the Dom Luis bridge and the Port lodges that line the riverbank or of the romantic Fonte Taurina, one of the oldest streets of Oporto. Only steps away from an abundance of attractions and historical monuments. Create beautiful memories and let the Guest House Douro be one of them!
Our best and most favorite hotel in May 2022 Portugal vacation. Owners, Hugo and Louisa, served us breakfast in morning right at our own reserved table. Fresh fruits were scrumptious. Small hotel with only 8 rooms with two on each floor. We chose street view rooms for quiet. Our daughter chose balcony room facing water front and river. Half block walk from waterfront area and activity, including live local musicians. Lots of restaurants and tour boats going up and down river under very high bridge, you can walk under and watch river activity. Kalif, on desk at night, was SUPERB and BEST of BEST we have ever encountered in all our world travels. His recommendations for restaurants and what to see were spot on. In addition, he expertly helped us resolve a last night, late evening problem with getting transportation to our next destination to pick up rental car in our next city. Kalif and owners are, in addition to this lovely lodging gem, well-worth the stay. I most strongly recommend you stay here. We shall definitely be back. You will love them and their place.

Location by the river is good particularly in the evening for eating choices and strolls. No late noise issues though. Staff all very helpful. Decor very tasteful and different - not at all boringly corporate. Our room was large had a comfy bed and a lovely fitted bathroom. Bit limited on drawer space but not a problem for a short break. Lovely communal seating areas with comfy seats and tables. Breakfast choice ok, nice touch providing a packed one for early flights. All in all good value and happily recommend this hotel

Quality bed and linen. Excellent breakfast. Staff so friendly and accommodating. Fully enjoyed the Loft and Porto. Would go back any day. Thank you.

Spent 3 nights at M Maison, the location, staff, room - everything was top notch comfort. Filipa, Helen and the rest of the staff took excellent care of us, including an in-room couples massage. We were a little wary reading some of the mixed reviews including noise, but we could not have been happier with our stay. Definitely recommend and would return!

· The location was exceptional. Just a few 100m away from one of the main streets in Porto, but in a side street, making it more quiet. The stone walls are beautiful, and the room is well lit by the windows. The overall decor and vibe of the place is very cozy. Code check-in makes everything simpler and easy. · Unfortunately, there was a brazilian music bar almost in front of the rooms. There was loud music and very loud people up until 4/6am, making it impossible to sleep well. The beds were a bit too hard. Left with some back pain.

This place is absolutely stunning. It is very well located, just 15 minute of walk from the most central places and in front there’s a beautiful park with stunning views over Porto. The decor of the rooms and the common areas are beautiful, the staff extremely kind and helpful and the breakfast well, that is just amazing. What really makes the difference though is the attention to details, a sliced of home-made cake and some port is always available in the main saloon which is a plus after a long day trotting around the city. Despite not being in the super touristic area, the location is quiet and very well connected. We walked from there everywhere without even taking a simple transport so I was actually quite happy to be away from the caos. Can’t say enough how much I have loved this place, extremely recommended!

We spent two nights here with our Labrador. It is a quaint and quirky old Portuguese house with interesting art and furniture. Lovely garden. Good breakfast for €5 pp. Clean. Friendly receptionist on arrival. We found it quite hard to find as there is minimal signage (just a small 8” plaque to the left of the front door) - it looks just like a private house. The hotel is situated quite a long way from the river so a good long uphill walk home. Parking is either on the street with tickets purchased every two hours or in a pay car park through the hotel approx 300 yards away (€7 per day). As I mentioned at the beginning, we had our Labrador with us and our room was on the top floor. The second flight of stairs , the top landing, and our bedroom are all laminate floors so I was very concerned about the noise of his claws on the floors for the rooms below. If we went again I would request a ground floor room. Having said all that it is very reasonable priced and good value.
