Best fish restaurant in Poole

Reviewed By 896jackier

Just arrived in Poole, about 5pm starving! We have our small dog Ted with us who loves going to restaurants. Popped into Loch Fyne Poole. Staff very welcoming, we sit in the bar area because we have the dog, which we don’t mind as it is a nice snug area. Tom our waiter, very friendly and talked us through the special of the day. I check out what was in the fresh fish cabinet, and saw oysters! My favourite. We ordered them as a starter cooked, with the delicious toppings. I’ve got to say the best I’ve eaten, and at 95p each, wow. ( I wanted more) lol For my main course I opted for the classic fish n chips, with mushy peas and tartare sauce. The fish was to die for, crispy beer batter with white beautiful flakey fish. My husband opted for the smoked haddock dish. Beautifully served, no need to order more sides with this dish, it comes with enough veg. Again fish beautifully cooked, resting on fluffy mash potatoes in a creamy sauce. Ted had his usual a sausage. It’s so lovely they will cook a sausage for the dog a real treat for him. All food freshly cooked and piping hot by the chefs. All the staff are very friendly, nothing to much trouble, Mark always got a lovely smile on his face. We’re in Poole until the weekend, so will definitely be popping back in to Loch Fyne for another meal (more oysters) Save your receipt, next visit 25% off, which is quite substantial especially if your eating with the family.

No warm welcome.

Reviewed By Lucylobby

More like a hostel than B&B. No hosts, no welcome just a basic room and automated check in. Order breakfast by text, which is served in the dining room, service was efficient but lacked the friendly personal touch of hosted B&B's. Luckily other rooms were occupied we would have really not wanted to be the only guests in an otherwise empty building. Probably suits some people but not us, we didn't enjoy the experience at all. The room was adequate for one night although ensuite was not very clean. The toilet flush was feeble, there was black mould in the shower, the sink plug was full of hair, the expel air fan very noisy and went on for ages, there are no curtains just shutters but one was broken and would not stay closed. Strange alarm started somewhere in the building at 5.30am, going off every 5 mins until 6.30am, possibly another guests? Bed was quite comfortable but overall we were pleased we had only booked one night.

Amazing food, great atmosphere & the best staff...

Reviewed By richardbC8446BV

We visited The Canford for a family Sunday lunch. All of us commented on how good the food was, I'd go as far as saying it's the best roast dinner I've ever had! The food was really tasty, piping hot & the portions generous. There was also a great atmosphere, busy & friendly. What topped it off though was the service. Our waitress, Georgia, was fantastic (as were the other staff who also tended to our table). It's rare to go somewhere & receive such attentive & friendly service from the waiting staff, we all noticed it & commented on it. We'll be back at The Canford in the near future & it's now top of my list for our work Xmas do also.

Great evening eating out with friends.

Reviewed By DorzetDave

My wife and myself visited the other night with 3 friends and had a lovely time overall. Couple of errors - saying a debit card hadn’t gone through on our first drinks order, (when we had paid in cash), and bringing extra dishes we hadn’t ordered. But the errors dealt with quickly, professionally and without drama. Our food was lovely. All of us agreed and were very happy with our choices, (including scallops, soup, liver, vegetarian mushroom pie, cheese board, and brownie). Portion sizes were also very generous, with good price point. Waiting staff in the restaurant were lovely but slight lack of organisation meant we had 3 people attending the table at various points, and repeatedly asking if we wanted another drink, (when we were asked just a minute before by someone else). No big issue and I’d rather be asked than ignored! Great evening, good food, big portions and friendly staff.

Great place!!

Looked a nice place before we got there but on being showed go our room I was amazed- very comfortable, clean and good quality everything! Huge double shower and bed, cold water in foyer fridge and plenty of space Dinner in the bar was excellent, well sourced local produce meant to a tasty dinner. Breakfast was delicious, we’re slow eaters in the morning and probably tested their patience but the scrambled egg was one of the best I’ve had We asked for a later checkout which, although not popular, was agreed to and really helped us out All in all an amazing stay, shame it was only for one night. Highly recommend

Good value overnight stay

Reviewed By NeilandVirginia

We booked a room for a flying visit to a relative. The price was better than most other similar places in Poole. We were greeted warmly, and were really happy with our room, en suite facilities etc. One side of the bed was missing a table and the drink-making facilities were basic (good biscuits, though) , but these aren’t big issues for a night. The bed was huge and comfortable. Some early morning road noise, ( I knew there would be. It’s on the main road past Ashley Cross Green) We paid ad hoc for breakfast which worked (yoghurt for one, served nicely in a tall stemmed glass, avo toast for the other) Good coffee We would go again
