Old newly renovated farmhouse in peaceful valley close to Ullswater with views of Helvellyn and Blencathra. Walks from the door and route descriptions available. Delicious homecooked, mostly organic food, distinctive furniture and beautiful decoration, organic and local toiletries, stylish en-suite bathrooms, use of gardens, Nothing too much trouble. Children all ages welcome.
Perfect! Beautiful, quiet, more than comfortable, immaculately clean, amazing breakfasts and delicious sandwich or salad lunches available (also perfect for supper if you fancy a quiet night in). Perfect location for walkers. No need for car just get up and go! Jim and Tina were so lovely right from the start - patiently and graciously responding to email enquiries even before had confirmed my booking. I really can't wait to return!

A lovely little country pub. Beautiful beer garden for summer and double sided wood burner for winter. Homemade bar & restaurant food and good hospitality.
One of the best pubs i have ever had the pleasure of staying in from arriving to leaving the staff could not be friendlier the service and attenion was exceptional. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable ,Food of a very very high standard. All in all in all a five star experience so would definitely recommend and go back to stay SAM RAINE

As frequent visitors to the lakes, and Pooley Bridge, we decided to stay somewhere we'd never stayed before, and chose The Queens Head Inn. We are so glad we did! We all had a great stay! The building is huge inside, and pub is old fashioned with low ceilings and dark roof beams everywhere, and in total contrast, the ensuite rooms are really modern, and have been decorated superbly! We also had 2 dogs, and someone with a rollator to accommodate, and this was no issue at all. Food was delicious and the staff were amazing! Special thanks to the tall blonde lady who really looked after us! This trip was a sentimental trip, and The Queens Hetad will never fully appreciate the huge part they've played in it. Thank you all so much! We definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back!

1863 is more than just another guest house. Owners Anne and Mark offer their guests the quality of a boutique hotel but with the homely welcome of a traditional B&B. A relaxed, friendly atmosphere encourages visitors to take time to unwind in comfortable surroundings, enjoy locally-sourced, seasonal dishes cooked up by our skilled chef before retiring to the bar for a night cap or to bed for restful sleep.
The food was excellent. Taster menu highly recommended. Stayed two nights, breakfast great. Pre booked what we ate so ready when we came. Bedroom lovely, thoughtful, clean, delightfully decorated. Situated in a lovely village, next to the magnificent Ullswater Lake.

A stunning property in the Lake District National Park situated right on the bank of the River Eamont and footsteps from Ullswater. Unwind and relax in characterful and cosy guest bedrooms filled with all the comforts of home. Tuck into fabulous food, hearty and filling, in the restaurant and enjoy a drink in a cosy fire nook for colder days or on the spectacular outdoor terrace with views over the Lakeland when the sun is shining. Part of The House of Daniel Thwaites collection. ** Please note bridge improvement work is due to start in September 2019, but The Crown Inn, Pooley Bridge is still open during this time. **
Over the course of our short family break in Pooley Bridge, we tried to get in to The Crown twice on consecutive days. Both times we were met at the door with a barracade. The pub looked empty, but was informed by the man at the door in a blunt and rather rude tone that they couldn't accommodate us for a drink and that food was about to stop - this was at 5pm. He wasn't interested in trying to explain why we couldn't come in, nor any shred of apologetic tone. So we lleft feeling very unwelcome. In contrast, the staff over the road at the Pooley Bridge Inn were very friendly, accommodating and efficient and we stayed there a good few hours.

The hotel in Penrith was ok, it needs some tlc and a lock of paint in the rooms and in the bar, but it was clean! There is a bar downstairs which was too noisy to fall asleep to, even on a Wednesday. Their was one guy that was super helpful but the other staff members seem completely indifferent and didn’t seem like they wanted to be there at all.

Traditional Lakeland Inn in the Heart of Pooley Bridge, open fires, outdoor courtyard, home-cooked food and 11 en-suite rooms
We had a table booked for 1pm for 7 guests (1was a child in high chair) We arrived early aprix 12:40 but as the inn had not been open that long we thought it was not a problem. The restaurant and outside was filling up but not mega. Drinks ordered and then waited at least 20 mins on top for someone to take our food order. We ordered and then waited over 45mins for starters. We asked where they were and was told "I've just put your order to the top of the pile" after that long!! Starters arrived but we asked for chilli nachos but got chilli fries ...We weren't prepared to ask and get changed after waiting so long! Starters eaten and table partly cleared...more drinks ordered. Again over 40 mins we asked where our mains were. Staff apologies and told be about 10-15 mins. Food arrived. Lamb kofta over cooked and tough, chicken on the hot sandwich was like rubber. Sunday roast the meat was nit of a good quality, vegetables bland and the yorkshire pudding resembled expanding foan and went to powder when cut! Burgers were tasty and so was the fries and side orders. The drinks also took a long time and we had to catch people as they were passing. If its table service then make sure the staff are attentive! Management was very apologetic for the wait.. and we took up the discount offer. If she had not suggested one I would have stated about the wait and quality of food. It is a shame. The pub is lovely with the decor and a good selection of food and drinks. I appreciate hospialty industries have taken a beating but if you have a big restaurant, large outdoor areas then make sure your kitchen can can cope and you have enough waiting on staff and they are attentive. In summertime I would expect a long wait!!

We decided to break our journey on a trip from Lincoln to Islay. And what a find! We stayed at The Black Swan in Culgaith overnight. Culgaith is a beautiful small village and the Pub is the hub. We were greeted by Lovely, vivacious Jackie who immediately makes you feel so welcome. She showed us to a lovely, well set out room that was so, so clean. The room had all the usual facilities but with lots of lovely little extras that just make your stay so personal and special. This place has it all, fabulous rooms, a welcoming traditional bar, beautiful beer garden and a separate elegant restaurant. The real prize was the food. WOW, WOW, WOW! Steve, the chef and co-owner with Jackie is some cook! His fennel bread had me in love (I need the recipe) Jason had mushroom starter, they were delicious and he was soaking up every drop with that delicious bread. I chose the seabass in a butter and caper sauce and Jason had beef bourguignoin. The best seabass I think I’ve ever had and the beef was divine. Steve even makes the side dishes a work of art. This man is very talented. Just going down for brekkie and I’m sure it will impress like The Black Swan and all the staff we had the privilege to meet. We hope to visit again soon. Very well done team Black Swan xx

Albany House is a 4 Gold Star guest house situated conveniently in the centre of Penrith. We provide stylish and comfortable rooms and an award winning breakfast. We are just 5 mins from J40 of M6 and A66,and only 5 miles from Lake Ullswater.
We stayed here for two nights at the end of May and were delighted with the place. We were greeted by the owner who explained the local car parking and showed us to our room. The room was very spacious, at the front of the building with a sitting area and good bathroom. The chocolate brownies supplied on the tea tray were much appreciated. Breakfast was also excellent with cooked food available as well as cereals, yoghurt and fresh fruit. The cafetiere of coffee was also a very good start to the day. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend Albany House as it is also a short walk (5 to 10 mins) from the centre of Penrith.
