Beautiful Hotel, But No Outside Food Or Drink Permitted

Reviewed By NealCassady001

The grounds are lovely. The pools are heated, but not too much. The hot tub was wonderful. The room was clean, the bed comfy, the bathroom huge. The staff was pleasant. The location is terrific. The place was quiet in the evening. No ice machine; had to request it at the front desk. No microwave in the room. The mini-fridge in the room was true to its name; couldn't fit much in there. Couldn't heat up anything later anyway. The written rules that I signed, initialed, & dated upon arrival stated that no outside food or drink could be brought onto the property, or something to that effect. I found that a bit odd, as I don't recall ever seeing that before, anywhere. At some point during my stay, I saw a food order being delivered by a Grubhub-type service to the grounds. Maybe that was for the staff.

Great stay!

Best location in Palm Springs if you ask me, close to down town but just far enough away that it's more peaceful. Wanted to stay in an authentic original midcentury modern hotel, and this one was perfect. Super clean inside, beautifully remolded and comfortable. Only complaint is the pool was not kept up with, maybe because we were visiting during off-season in June? Otherwise, I'll rebook if we end up in palm springs again!

The Best Hotel in Palm Springs

Avance was exactly the hotel we were looking for to chill out before Coachella after a long drive from BC. So peaceful and quiet with a beautiful swimming pool & hot tub. The staff are so lovely and go above and beyond by offering breakfast in the morning. We loved our stay so much that we ended up booking in again before we left Palm Springs. We stayed in 2 different rooms ( One with a private patio, and one without) Both, were perfect and offered us the relaxation we needed and all guests in the inn were quiet & respectful. Special mention to Mercedes & the front desk team who were so kind. Can't wait to come back!

Room for improvement

Reviewed By TimA2343

I love the Hideaway. Always have and probably always will. For a low-key place near the center of town, with an almost time-traveling mid-century vibe, it cannot be beat. No kids. No staff on the premises. It's essentially a self-serve hotel/motel (no bar, no restaurant, no spa). But what you get in return is an efficiency apartment (tiny kitchen in every room) that virtually feels like your own little place in the desert. There are only about ten rooms which all share a pool, so one loud/obnoxious guest can affect every other guest's experience. Miraculously, the staff does a great job attracting guests who "get it." This is not a place to party down. Quiet escape is the name of the game. We've never had a problem. As frequent return guests, we have noticed changes that make the Hideaway feel less special. They used to provide a simple yet tasty complimentary breakfast (self-serve) and a large common-area fridge with free cans of sparkling water and juice. There was a poolside kitchen and open-air living room that most people didn't use, but these made the space feel more welcoming and hospitable. I assume they were closed as a safety measure during the pandemic, but they have never reopened. Also, the team was very proactive about offering discounts to return visitors, even during the high season. Covid changed all that. Like most places, there's a new and noticeable degree of cost cutting that now impacts the guest experience. And physically, the rooms need some TLC. We were quite surprised by how run down and sad our room felt/looked. The Hideaway has always felt minimalist yet very well-maintained, while honoring its mid-century roots. On this visit: Broken blinds, broken lamps, rusting/rotting shower door frame, etc. I wish I could say otherwise, but these were all impossible to ignore. Some issues feel like an accident wait to happen (see pics).

Relaxing Place

Reviewed By S1325NLsarahb

We stayed at the BelleVue in late February 2022 for 4 nights. Pool area gets 5 stars, room gets 3 stars! Pros: Beautiful outdoor space. The pool and spa is meticulously maintained. Comfortable seating around the pool. Very quiet and relaxing (adults only.) The landscaping is gorgeous, with lots of annuals and mature trees around the property providing ample shade. We loved having our own little patio at both the front and back door! There's a putting green out back - interesting feature if that's your thing. Our king size bed was comfortable and our couch provided nice seating for us to watch TV in the evening. The shower was pretty nice. Plenty of warm water and good flow. Cons: The room was rather spartan. With the exception of a few leftover hairs in the bathroom, it was very clean. It happens. No biggie. But they could do a few things to make the rooms much more enjoyable that wouldn't cost much money. Couple suggestions: provide real coffee cups and beverage cups, maybe a few wine glasses. The guests who had the kitchenette rooms said they had real ones in their rooms. Why not put them in the King rooms as well? A box of tissues? We bought one at Albertsons. Then it occurred to me to ask the front desk person if they had any and he promptly grabbed one from storage. Just put one in the room! There was no dresser in our room. Considering we were staying for 4 nights, it would be nice to be able to unpack our clothes. One luggage rack that I used and then my husband put his bag on the floor. We had one of those IKEA like cube storage units that our TV sat on. That was the only thing to store items on during our stay. The bathroom was fine, but a little tired. A new vanity would be nice. There was no counter space. Foot stools or a coffee table? We had a Keurig, but they gave us one regular K-cup and one decaf. Seemed strange. We had to ask for more each day. A rug over the tile floor would be nice too. Location is about a 20-25 minute walk from the main downtown area on Palm Canyon Drive. Not a big deal. Nice quiet neighborhood, but we ended up driving into town most days. Parking at the hotel was easy. There's a Starbucks within 15 minutes walking distance. They are a very hands-off staff. Not much interaction. The friendliest person we encountered was the nice guy who cleaned the pool. Would I stay again? Maybe. We really enjoyed sitting around the pool and meeting the other guests. But a few little additions to the room would make a big difference. It's cheaper than staying right off Palm Canyon, but it's still not cheap at $300 per night. You would think for that price they could do a little more to the rooms.
