The hotel rooms have recently been renovated and are clean, fresh and functional. The beds are unbelievably comfortable. Despite its location above a bar, there is no noise. The staff are unbelievably accommodating, a special mention to Andrew and Peter for ensuring that we were accommodated for in every way, their service alone will give me enough to recommend this establishment to any visiting party. The hotel is well priced and exceeds all of the reasonable expectations. We will return. Thank you.

Our three spacious air-conditioned suites are luxuriously appointed. Each has its own en-suite with walk-in shower, heated flooring and heated towel rails. Wake up to views of Little Oyster Cove from your own private balcony.
Our first visit to this accommodation - wasn't disappointed - easy check in with key lock box if reception is closed, very clean, large bathroom with excellent shower, comfy bed and lounge suite, views, easy parking at the door of your suite. Ample treats in mini bar if you need them and a coffee pod machine. It's an excellent base if exploring the southern area and a very short distance to the ferry to Bruny Island. The breakfast prepared by Jesse is possibly the best we have experienced anywhere - very professionally done with everything you need for a filling breakfast, and I must say the cappuccinos my husband and had at breakfast was the best we had anywhere on our 4 day stay in the south of the state! Good coffee is important!!! The only thing I would say is lacking is a microwave in the suite - there are a number of restaurants in the area that are not open on certain evenings for dinner so unless you have something substantial for lunch, it's a bit hard to find a variety of eating establishments nearby, unless you want to eat at the Cove Inn. This may change in the future but just be aware that you may need to visit the IGA in Margate for supplies.

Stayed here for 4 nights as it was a lovely town and good spot for day trips. Rooms were lovely. My only criticism was there was no microwave in room which would’ve been handy on the cold nights. Pub was good, excellent staff and decent pub meals. Great atmosphere.

Welcoming, friendly and accommodating hosts and a large, airy and well-appointed room with wonderful views over the garden and river. Very comfortable bed with quality linen. Leonie prepared delicious cooked breakfasts and was happy to provide our needs to enjoy our own platters. We found this accommodation to be a perfectly located bolt hole to which we could return and relax each day after exploring the region.

My wife and I had two two-night stays last month at the Grand Vue Hotel at either end of a Three Capes walking trip we undertook. The Hotel is in an excellent location in Battery Point and everything about our stay was first class. Lots of restaurants nearby. The facilities are great, especially the communal kitchen with lots of provisions supplied, including a lovely cake in the afternoon. Our room had a lovely view of the Derwent and Mt Wellington. The hosts, Ashley and Brock were very personable and helpful. Can thoroughly recommend as the place to stay when visiting Hobart.

After traveling around Tasmania and staying at a dozen places, none of them disappointed as much as Villa Howden. We read a review from another TripAdvisor contributor which said that the water was either freezing cold or boiling hot in the shower? How could that be I wondered… but my wife found exactly the same problem. Also, as there is only free-to-air TV, I thought I might watch something on the Internet… wrong. The best download speed I could get was 0.73Mbps… not fast enough for the most basic watchable app. The lovely lady at the counter explained that sometimes the Internet at her home is slow.. that doesn’t help at all. Apart from the fact that the villa doesn’t resemble a French provincial villa in any tangible aspect apart from being a relatively new building but with the deterioration usually seen in truly historic building, the condition of the windows (bird guano and spider webs), the poorly repaired ‘French’ door in our room, the broken and chipped cement render in many many places is consistent with what I have read from other critical contributors: this place is not worth the money. I’m glad I only have to stay 1 night in this dive.
