Situated at the feet of the western Pyrenees near the French border, Spain's Basque country comprises three provinces: Guipúzcoa and the popular beachfront capital of San Sebastian; Viscaya, where capital Bilbao houses the jaw-dropping Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum; and Alava, whose capital Vitoria teems with medieval architecture. Running with the bulls at Pamplona and drinking rioja from area wineries add to the region's exotic romanticism. Travel in early summer and fall to dodge the madding crowds.

For travelers who measure their travels by the experiences they live and the people they know. Pensión Amaiur is located in the oldest house in San Sebastián, in the heart of the old part of Donostia. It works as a pension since 1988 and has been completely renovated and re-decorated in 2013 as if it were our own house; trying to make it as welcoming as possible for our guests. Our pension is unique with its own character, vintage style and charisma. This will contribute to the pleasure of your travel experience. If all things were equal, there would be no magic in this world. We are pleased to welcome you and make you feel at home.
The pension is the ideal location for action and pinxtos, the property itself is quaint, homey, and clean, and Roberto and Aihnoa are sweet and accommodating. A huge bouquet of flowers had arrived for me just prior to our arrival, and Aihnoa was so kind to put them in water in her own vase before putting them in our room. Just an FYI for seniors like us: No elevator and lots of stairs. Our adorable room was the equivalent of 4 flights up, which would not be an issue if we weren't so old!

Cozy family owned and operated boutique hotel located in the green belt of Donostia-San Sebastian, in the countryside just 10 minutes from downtown. Renovated building whose origins are back in the late 15th century.
The photos of this property do not do it justice. Every corner is elegant and tasteful, warm and serene. We can't say enough about the gracious sisters who own and run the hotel, which was their grandparents' farmhouse. We stayed in the family room - spacious with a seating area and desk. Bathrooms very modern. We ate dinner one night at the property. They don't claim to be a gourmet restaurant but after a long day of sightseeing and gloomy weather, it was lovely to be able to stay in and enjoy a simple, but delicious and very reasonably priced dinner. We much preferred staying here to the noisy hustle and bustle of San Sebastian. Our favorite hotel during our several weeks in Spain.

The hostess was really welcoming, showing us where we can grab some beach towels and anything we might need during the evening. The rooms all have a great and unique style. The kids loved the murals in Amsterdam room. The views from the balconies on to the street were very special and even the views towards the back had their own charm and gave a glimpse into real life. Coming and going via our big wooden door on the street, it didn’t feel like we were in a hotel at all - it was like we were living there from the moment we checked in. Great ice cream shop on the opposite side of the street and plenty of time to stroll down for a final swim in the sea before checking out. Would definitely return.

What a fabulous hotel so close to all the action in San Sebastián. We booked a room with a small balcony overlooking the lovely square. The room was small but comfortable. Great shower, no place in bathroom to put toiletries, a safe, big bed but hard, nice balcony overlooking the square & amazing reception ladies, so friendly. Great location near to the old town. Best value for money for a hotel in ages. Free express breakfast thrown in at Cafe next door, absolutely delicious.

Hotel Villa Eugenia is located in the popular Gros neighborhood, just a 10-minute walk from the Old Town of San Sebastian. A Victorian Villa that has evolved with this privileged area of the city, Villa Eugenia is perfectly located between Monte Ulia and Zurriola Beach, a meeting point for locals Including an infinity climatized
Stayed at Villa Eugenia end May. I'd emailed in advance asking for the hotel to arrange a taxi transfer from Bilbao airport- I received an email confirmation but on arrival at the airport no taxi arrived. I called the hotel & they sent another taxi but the driver hadn't been given the address of the hotel. Our room was quite small & we did ask to be moved on day 1 but we were told the hotel was full- I found this odd because we took a call same day from reception when in the UK asking if we had booked / required two rooms. The bathroom door in our room wouldn't close properly & was very noisy in the night if we needed the bathroom - we reported this on day 1 & were assured that someone would come to repair it or we would be moved. Despite reporting this a further two times the problem was never resolved. We were awarded some free drinks as compensation. Overall I'd say that this hotel is more like a B&B - there are no staff on site after 10pm, no physical bar & the advertised "honesty bar" is a series of locked fridges. The advertised free "Mini-Bar" consists X2 waters X2 ice tea & X2 Cokes. The are no tea/coffee making facilities in the hotel bedrooms. It is quite a pretty hotel & we found it clean & the domestic staff were very considerate when servicing the rooms waiting for us to leave before trying to enter the room.

Great location and great price to value. Clean rooms and quiet also. What really makes this hotel a 5 star review is the outstanding hostess / receptionist named Cristina that welcomed us. She prepared a list of recommendations which she wrote by hand and walked us trough a map of the city. She thoroughly detailed where to go and what to order down to the flavor of the ice cream she liked the most. You could see her smile even with the face mask on… uplifting. The places she recommended where very good, we had the most amazing time and the food is no short of spectacular. Must try the Cheesecake at La Viña, we went 4 times in 3 days.

In a little town called Laguardia there's a solace for the tired, stressed traveler: it's a house we call Erletxe, where troubles fade into the warm and soft murmur of country life. Surrounded by nature, history and life, this country house has been offering accommodation to whoever seeks it under its roof — and leaving good memories in the minds of those of us lucky enough to share the slow flow of time inside its walls.
We had a beautiful room with a view of the fields outside the city wall. Laura is the best tour guide, ever! She gave us great advice (and even called to make reservations) on bodega tours and historical sites. There are so many wineries in the caves beneath the city that it would have been hard to decide. The ones she suggested were perfect for us - the oldest, Casa Primicia, and the one still producing wine within the city walls, Bodega El Fabulista. The 2 tours were quite different and complimented each other. We also visited a great castle on our way to our next location, at her suggestion.
