Bij hen op Ameland (with them on Ameland) is a small authentic hotel in the heart of the village of Hollum on the beautiful island of Ameland. If you want to sleep in historical heritage and in a room with an island theme (beach, forrest, lighthouse), plan your stay in this hotel from 1761. In the morning we serve an extensive continental breakfast in buffet form from 8.30 - 10.30. For lunch en dinner our chicken specialty restaurant serves not only the most delicious chicken dishes, but also some fine fish, meat and vegetarian dishes.
Everybody working at the hotel and really friendly. The town was quiet and just a short walk from the beach. The hotel's restaurant was really great and right around the corner was another good restaurant with it's own drink, De Griffel. The local people of Hollum were also really friendly and helped us find our way when we were looking for local sights. All in all, we really loved it and would definitely go again.

Nice hotel, with different kind of rooms, some with bath, and some rooms where you can take your dog with you.
The property is located in a small village on the east of the island and about 45-60 mins by cycling to the main town on the island. The hotel part is ok, basic functional room. Rooms are decorated from the most probably the late 80's or early 90's although they are still functional. Bed was comfortable. The shower area is ok, with good pressure and hot water. Internet (you need to ask for the code at the reception/bar - not sure why they don't just include it in the information booklet in the room). Speed was ok and stable. There is NO tea/coffee making, hairdryer and ironing facilities in the room. The hotel does have a sauna - though did not check it out. Breakfast seems to be included in all rates. The breakfast spread is OK - typical dutch spread with 4 hot dishes (with some variations from day to day). For the hotel part, it is slightly on the expensive side from value point of view, but still tolerable. As for the restaurant, in general it is an ok one. Prices are on par with the rest of the island. However one bitter point was how irresponsible the owner is in taking responsibility of their own mistakes. On the first day, for lunch, in their lunch menu, there was a meal (a sate dish) listed as a lunch portion which we ordered. However on the day of check-out when looking at the final bill of the hotel including items ordered at the restaurant, noticed that we were charged for the full dinner portion of the sate dish. Complained about this and even pointed it out in the menu that this does exist, the staff called the owner/manager but we were told that since we have the dinner portion we had to pay for it. Was further informed that in fact that option should have been removed from the menu (but was not done). After some negotiation, the staff agreed to take 5 Euro's from the full price. There was not much option but to agree to this. Therefore in this situation it shows - no ownership in their own mistake - staff could have informed us on the day that we ordered this that this does not exist and if we still wanted it, will be charged the full price and should have not assumed that we will be ok to pay the full price (which was crazy since it was close to 2x what you pay on the mainland) - no customer service or maintaining a returning customer mentality Therefore for me, all in all, the hotel is OK, but the restaurant and staff are not very customer friendly especially in resolving issues.

We were impressed by this small hotel in Nes, a quaint village founded by whaling seamen, but now a tourist resort (without high-rise buildings!), on the Dutch North Sea island of Ameland. Admittedly our room was on the small side but is was very clean, comfortable and well-appointed with high quality goodies. The youthful staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. We had dinner in the hotel’s restaurant and the quality was perfect. The breakfast was also good and nicely served, but the choice was a little limited, as is the norm in the Netherlands. The bus service to and from the harbour stops right in front of the hotel. Ameland boasts extremely wide beaches and is very popular with Dutch and German tourists. It is only a 45-minutes ferry ride to the mainland.

Only ate at the restaurant. We sat outside because we have dogs. The friendly head waiter brought a bowl of water for them. We ordered some of the toasted sandwiches and burgers. The toasted sandwiches are made with homemade bread. The portions were big and the food was delicious. Can definitely recommend.

The hotel was in an ideal location. They allowed a late check-in even after our ferry was delayed. They recommended a great place for dinner as their kitchen was closed. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. It had a hairdryer and the water was always hot for the shower. We had breakfast on Sunday and it was plentiful. We would definitely come back!

We had an apartment for three in the Hotel Pension Ambla, which included two bathrooms, bedroom, kitchen and living area (with fold away bed). Excellent location in the peaceful village of Hollum less than 1km from the beach. The owner was friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome. Spotless accommodation with a daily change of towels - wonderful.
