10 Top-Rated All-inclusives in Alaska

April 18, 2023 Emerita Lamoureux

Alaska is divided into five regions: far north, interior, southwest, south central, and inside passage. Although it takes a long time to see the entire state, you can travel through the regions by boat, car, bus, or plane. Hike through the mountains, or venture out on a deep sea fishing or whale watching excursion. Get in touch with nature by camping in the wilderness, or experience your preferred degree of class and luxury in the beautiful, active cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks.

An Extraordinary Experience

- what a treasure this place is. From the cabins, to the food, to the adventures, this place gets everything right. Of course, that only happens with fantastic staff, and this place has them in abundance. Everyone who works here is kind, fun, and shockingly well-educated on outdoor education. Patient too. We are all trying new stuff, and they are supportive and work with each person individually to make each guest fell comfortable and included, regardless of athletic level. The cabins are clean, cozy, and spacious. We slept like rocks. I was thrilled to discover they have some rooms set up for three adults as I took my two grown sons on this trip with me and it is so much nicer when each person has a bed to themselves, so that was a huge perk. This area of Alaska is cold, even in summer, but the rooms stayed toasty. Hot water for the in-room shower comes on quickly too. But my favorite feature of the cabin is the view. The cabins have sliding glass doors and a porch with rocking chairs which will steal your attention and make it hard to stop staring at Pederson Glacier all night ! - The food is really delicious at this lodge. We had full breakfast choices each morning, hearty sandwiches and soup for lunch, and well-crafted dinners each evening. I think they bake their own bread too. My younger son is a veterinarian and he was able to get delicious meals too. There is a bar across from the dining room where you can get free sodas, coffee, tea, and snacks throughout the day, and wine or “glaceritas” for a small charge in the evenings. I highly recommend the glaceritas. The adventures crafted each day were a blast. We picked this place based on their immersive experience hand-crafted for the guests. The education on conservation was exceptional and the staff really know their stuff. They are happy to impart their knowledge as you go on a guided hike, canoe paddle, or kayaking experience. It’s all beautiful country, so you pick what matches your energy and curiosity level. We did an all-day kayaking trip one day to Aialik Glacier (highly recommend) then a morning hike and afternoon canoe paddle + nature trail walk to Pederson Glacier the second day. - They also have environmental topics presented each evening out on the deck. - They have a full gear deck which was extremely helpful. They have a huge supply of rubber boots (Wellies) which are critical in the muddy and wet conditions, rain pants, rain jackets, paddle spray skirts - all in heavy supply, and multiple sizes. trekking poles for trail walking too. - The property is beautifully designed, low impact, and blends in with the natural surroundings. The Finnish sauna is an added treat. - The boat ride out and back is an exceptional way to see Resurrection Bay as well. We saw Orcas on the boat ride in and Humpback whales on the way back. - Find a way to stay at this place for a few days if you are serious about seeing Kenai Fjords, we made memories for a lifetime here.

Spent three days, with a bonus due to weather. Outstanding bear viewing. Did some fishing, but it was towards end of season, so slow and some were changing, but a lot of catching, releasing, some for home. The landscape is simply awesome. Everything is first class, from the guide who is with you whenever you leave the camp to the accommodations in this fly in location to the outstanding food and beverages. If you don't have it ask, as it will probably appear. It's wonderful, if you like nature, fishing, and wildlife.

One of a kind and awesome

Reviewed By sarahadowney

My partner and I stayed at the Boardwalk Lodge for about five days in early May of 2022. He's very into fly fishing (specifically steelhead), and this was the perfect setup for him. I was kind of along for the trip to go hiking, relax, etc. The Lodge is absolutely beautiful, and it's impressive that they managed to build it out in such a remote place. It combines the pure, untouched beauty of Alaska with a level of hospitality and comfort that you don't typically get out there. The owners and staff were all *incredibly* nice and interesting people. Eric the chef was innovative and accommodating (e.g., I don't eat gluten and he managed to make everything without it for me). This is a really unique and excellent experience and I can't recommend it enough.

An off the beaten path gem!

Reviewed By Carmen D

If you want to get away from the crowds to a nice, quiet, relaxing, remote location, this is the place to do it. Away from cell service and Wifi, the cabins at Kantishna are nestled near the end of the road, as far as you can travel into Denali National Park. They offer a variety of daily activities, including guided hikes to various locations and trips to Wonder Lake, where you can see the mountain range and Denali reflecting in the water. The staff are all friendly, fun and well informed. Our bus ride into the lodge from the Denali Visitor Center with tour guide Kirsty was phenomenal. She knew everything there is to know about the area, the history, the flora and the fauna and narrated the full trip. She slowed or stopped the bus where she could and let us off at a few stops along the way. Even when we could not get off, the bus windows slid down and she positioned the bus, so we could get unobstructed photos of the wildlife. Probably the best thing about Kantishna though was the food. Chef Jimbo forages the local land and creates the most mouthwatering, amazing meals. It has been 5 months since our trip and we still talk about Jimbo’s food. If you have special dietary needs, he will take the time to talk with you, understand what you can and cannot eat and will create custom meals to match your needs. No matter what he makes, the taste is guaranteed to be amazing! Some things to be aware of when traveling to Kantishna: There is not much wildlife at this end of the park so, if you think the more remote location will mean more wildlife, you will be disappointed. The wildlife on the drive in and out is incredible (we saw all of the Big 5), but once at the Kantishna Roadhouse the only mammal we saw was a rabbit. Also, bring bug spray. The place was crawling with mosquitoes. We couldn’t sit and relax outside because the mosquitoes were vicious. However, there is a great upstairs to the lodge where we could relax, with a reading room and several games. Don’t let these things deter you: For an off-the beaten path, relaxing, remote get-away, Kantishna can’t be beat.

What a spectacular unbelievable place. We booked this trip as a graduation present for my son from college. It exceeded expectations. A five star resort embedded in the wrangell st Elias national park reachable only by small bush planes. Incredible luxury as far as I have ever been from a paved road. The accommodations were top notch the sauna was luxurious and the food was unbelievable. There is a daily adventure which is dependent on weather and conditions. We were a little anxious about the tiny plane situation but our pilots Steve and Arturo rapidly dispelled any fear. Their aviation skills are spectacular. We flew to icy bay and saw icebergs, seals , glaciers calving and a beach completely free of human influence. The lunch picnics were gourmet level especially Granny’s cookies and granola bars. The staff were wonderful anticipating every need and want. If you go, make sure you get in on the after dinner presentations with Paul. A larger than life figure his personal adventures are inspiring and riveting. Truly a life changing experience. Thanks again to our pilots and tour guides we still use your quote—the odds are good but the goods are odd lol.

The most wonderful and amazing experience my wife and I have ever had. The lodge and the people running it are all amazing and friendly to the highest degree. It’s tough to start somewhere for a review. We were immediately welcomed by everyone. The cabins are cozy, but that’s ok because if you need them for anything other than collapsing after an amazing day in the park and a wonderful meal you’re doing it wrong. The lodge is a great place to relax with books and movies to watch. They also offer a laptop to check in if you need to because there’s no wifi… and it’s perfect. Angela and Perry are the greatest hosts you could imagine. Tom is an incredible chef and super guy to talk to. You will not go hungry here! Jake and Dustin took great care of us out in the backcountry. We never felt unsafe for even a second around bears several times larger than me. They took us to see so much wildlife. Bears, seals, sea lions, puffins, eagles, and more. Bring a good camera with a zoom lens to get some amazing souvenir pictures. Make sure you’ve got solid outdoor gear too. You can get supplies in Kodiak before you fly over. Most of all, enjoy yourselves in the park. You’re in the best possible hands you could be in. Angela, Perry, Tom, Jake, and Dustin.. we’ll miss you all, but we’ll be back one day!!!! Thank you all so much!
