Zahara de los Atunes is a village on the Costa de la Luz of Spain in the province of Cádiz and the autonomous region of Andalusia. It is noted for its excellent beaches, an outdoor cinema, and la Iglesia Del Carmen church where, curiously, tuna (caught in Almadraba traps) was butchered and salted. Also in the town there are excellent facilities including a variety of restaurants, cafes and hotels.

Crowded in summer as the whole coast in Spain, but not so much. You can find spots away of constructed areas that are pretty empty. In addition there two close Beaches (Alemanes and Cañuelo) that are superb and almost virgin Beaches. Just take care of the wind. Not recommended with strong levante (east winds)

Closed Mondays in July, August and September
We were staying at the Dos Mares Hotel and took a quick trip over to the museum and grounds. The displays are very well done and informative. The full on tour of the grounds was really interesting. You have the beach in front of you offering a great breeze and place for lunch.
Do check it out.

Waves are good for body boards. Sand is nice and clean coarse yellow, not a powder that kicks up and covers you. Great for children and to relax.
Very natural. Isolated in a neighborhood of high end houses. Beach access via drones stairway/paths. Parking limited. Services ZERO. No bathrooms/No showers or foot washers/ No lifeguards or places to or drink....just a beautiful beach overlooked by a lighthouse, military ruins and expensive homes. But the beauty of the beach is in just that. Not touristic, and man has only added access and some trash containers.

The kids had fun jumping on the dunes. Great for a walk on the beach and watching all the kite and windsurfers

Nice alternative to the larger Beaches, and depending on wind, an option for the surfers... This beach is a bit like the one in Point Break, where they do not appreciate newcomers !! No, I am taking the pi.. although this seems to attract a lot of the seasoned visitor, and they used to have an open air disco club on Saturdays, called explorer, which is fab, if it still exist...

This church is still a central part of life in Zahara, used regularly. It is small, but beautiful. It exudes a calm peacefulness on entering.
