Sitting on the south shore of Rhode Island, the town of Westerly is a quiet residential community in the winter, swelling in the summer to accommodate tourists eager to explore the local beaches, Narragansett Bay and the Rhode Island Sound. Just over the border from Connecticut, Westerly is conveniently located to the Aquarium at Mystic, as well as the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos. Nearby, the picturesque village of Watch Hill features ocean views, ice cream shops, and craft boutiques.

Watch Hill bird sanctuary.
We came for Memorial Day and got there about 10:30. Thankfully it wasn’t very crowded. You pass the watch hill yacht club and walk over the dunes and drop down on to this beautiful beach. It goes way out into the water and has beach on both sides. There are great views of the watch hill light house and all the boats. It’s the only place we have been that you can play on the dunes. There isn’t much public parking so go early. 2 hours free on the street and 2 hours free in the shopping parking lot; or spend 20-30 dollars for all day in the paid lot. This is a must visit beach in RI, off season or now during covid is probably the best time to go.

Proudly located in the seaside city of Westerly, Grey Sail Brewing of RI is southern Rhode Island's premier microbrewery equipped to produce up to 4,000 barrels of handcrafted beer per year. We are open for tours and tastings every Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.
Grey Sail Brewing is an awesome local brewery located in downtown Westerly. It’s hidden back yard bungalow is the coolest part! Not only do they offer delicious wood fired pizza and live music, they are dog friendly! They also offer local wine on tap if you’re not in the mood for beer. The staff is very friendly and kind. I’d recommend this for any visit. The backyard games, including a bocci court, corn hole, dart board, and board games keep the party going! I’d highly recommend this as a go to location for a good time!

This park has wide dirt paths. It is a little hilly. I have never seen it crowded. Dogs are allowed, but not their poop. Many dog owners seem to ignore that rule. As with any wooded area, spray for ticks...no matter what time of year. Skip this place in hot summer as it is filled with mosquitoes. In the Fall, the crisp smell of the changing seasons, the brilliance of the changing color of the leaves and if you listen carefully you can hear the ocean which is about 1 mile away

Living Sharks Museum is a pop-up Shark History & Conservation exhibition, created to educate the public about the story of the shark through a visual record of their history, exploitation and conservation. Featuring the permanent exhibit of infamous shark hunter-turned conservationist Frank Mundus. Curated by shark advocate and educator Keith Cowley.
This is a must stop! First off, it’s free. Second, Keith knows so much about sharks, their history, and presence in pop culture that he is able to answer all your questions even it you consider yourself a shark expert. Third, his collection is amazing. He has so many shark artifacts that just looking around it worth the walk upstairs alone. Please stop by and donate if you can! Their t-shirts for sale are a major plus!
