Palace Theater

Reviewed By radiowitch1 - Connecticut, United States

The Palace Theater in Waterbury is absolutely stunning. Built in 1922 and designed by Thomas W. Lamb in a Renaissance Revival architectural style, it's no surprise The Palace is on the National Register of Historic Places. Now that that's out of the way, parking is easy enough, across the street in a ramp garage, though for $8 it should be easy! In mid-November, a group of us came to The Palace for Lisa Lampanelli's "Losin' It" 4-person comedic play, and we had a great time. As you can see from my photos, The Palace is a gorgeous venue to attend a show. It's intimate but maintains a "grand" setting. The staff were courteous and the acoustics were great. Lisa Lampanelli's latest offering was funny but also "real" and kept us all engaged. She also raised the house lights at the end of the show to allow for audience Q&A, which made the evening more special. The Palace is a treasure and I hope to return again soon.

Mattatuck Museum

The Mattatuck Museum was established as the Mattatuck Historical Society in 1877 to preserve the history of that part of Connecticut "anciently known as Mattatuck" - roughly the ten town region surrounding present-day Waterbury. The Museum’s collections and special exhibitions help us to tell the stories of our community in partnership with neighborhood associations, ethnic organizations and regional manufacturing groups. Our art galleries display the work of American masters such as Frederic Church and John Frederick Kensett; Joseph and Anni Albers; Cleve Gray and Alexander Calder. We also present numerous changing exhibitions each year. The Museum is also home to a button gallery displaying 10,000 miniature works of art collected from around the globe.

This theater is hard to find, so make sure you know where to go. It is a small theater, with very nice and friendly folks. They have snacks, and sometimes pizza. The play we saw was very well done with good actors.
