The church has a long history dating back to the 1400s but what puts it on the map is that it was Saint John Paul II’s home parish; where he was baptized, served as an altar boy, received first holy communion, confirmed and celebrated his first mass as a priest. The church inside is stunning when you enter your eyes don't know what to look at first since there is so much to take in. The altar is one of a kind, the paintings on the ceiling are beautiful, even each one of the pillars in the church have mini-altars to the Divine Mercy and other Saints. On both sides of the main altar there are chapels; to the left is the Holy Family chapel with a baptismal font and Papal blessing for all that are renewing their baptism; to the right is the Crucifixion chapel with relics of Padre Pio and Maximilian Kolbe. The back of the church also has two more chapels one dedicated to Saint John Paul II and the other to the miraculous image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. At the entrance of the chapels, you will notice rosaries hanging on the walls, those are answered prayers of petitioners. Stop in and have a look at this beautiful basilica and lift up your petitions, prayers do get answered in this holy place. If you would like to know more about the life of Pope John Paul II, his childhood home is right next to the church (see my other review for more info).
