Open to the public, this farm offers pony rides for children.
Old Maryland Farm is a really nice area of Watkins Park. Chickens, pigs, horses, llamas, goats, ducks, donkeys, peacocks and rabbits are all there at the farm. Bring lots of quarters to get feed if you want to feed the birds!

A park that offers canoeing.
If you are in the area and enjoy natural areas do not miss a visit to this park. The long driveway ends at a visitor's center offering friendly staff and information about the trails, activities and wildlife. The visitor center area is on a bluff and you can easily check out views of the tidal freshwater marsh a few steps away. There is also a handicap accessible observation tower form which to view some of the abundant birds (including osprey & Eagles). A pollinator garden with a gazebo is located in the center of the parking area. Picnic tables are available nearby and many of these overlook the marsh. The brown trail is an easy walk (many sections are boardwalk) and allows visitors to circle over a beaver pond. At this time of year the brown trail is teeming with butterflies and dragonflies. The park has a network of trails through a variety of habitats and the visitors center offers maps. Nearly all of the trails are shaded and bridges are present at stream crossings. Small boats may be launched at the boat ramp for a fee. Kayaks are available for rent though conditions can get surprisingly rough if it is windy. For families with small children there is a natural playground past the visitor center driveway near the (historic) Croom airport site. If you are visiting on the weekend you can stop at the Museum of Rural Life and on Sunday afternoons the critical area driving tour to the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary is open. This park is off the beaten path but it is a beautiful area offering many activities and admission is FREE.

The drive through Festival of Lights has hundreds of figures, many of them animated, made of lights. Many are whimsical, e.g., penguins ice skating, and there are colorful arches over the road, a 50’ Christmas tree, and more. It took us about an hour to drive the route through the park. It is a superb value at $8/car.

Thy have very fresh produce and meats as well a baked good. They also have hand crafted items for sale. The best thing I like is the breakfast they serve. Blueberry pancakes are to die for as well as the fresh sausage and bacon they serve. You won't be sorry.

Took our grandkids (ages 3 and 5) to this wonderful old farm in Marlboro in September. We couldn't believe our good fortune! No lines! No parking issues! And the cost was very reasonable since we used a Groupon. The children had all the freedom in the world to run, jump, and play the moment we arrived. We spent about 5 or 6 hours there...no down time. (They didn't want to leave even after that length of time.) There are ample things to do there that don't require purchasing tickets so check those things first - the corn bin, the cow bounce house, the hayrides, the pallet maze, the paddle carts (large and small), the slides, calf roping, old tractors and trucks to climb, etc. Please note that there are two large play areas - the first one is obvious (front and center), the other is less obvious since it's tucked behind the "sheds" housing the pigs, horse, ducks, goats, etc. (We spent $1 for one package of animal feed which was ample.) Large paddle carts are in one area and small paddle carts are in the other. Those things that do require tickets are the giant pumpkin moon bounce, pumpkin chunking, the corn maze, gem mining, and witch decorating. This farm has a giant corn maze great for older kids and adults on one end, and a smaller maze for small children on the other end - a "story book" maze where you looked for/followed pages in the book as you navigated in and out of it. Perfect for our grandkids. There were no actual pumpkins on this farm - not sure if they will be coming in later or if the farm simply decided to plant corn. This was not an issue for us - we were thrilled we didn't need to carry pumpkins around with us. The hayrides are ongoing...one couple with a sleeping child simply stayed on it for multiple rides until their little boy woke up. Our grandkids took several rides as well. This farm sells great jams, jellies and more at very reasonable prices - great for gifts. So spend a little time checking those out. The farm also has a snack shacks where you can buy a hot dog, nachos, etc. Those are fine, but if you can also bring in your own drinks and sandwiches, etc., if you want to save a bit of money. Picnic tables are everywhere - some are under shelters. Anyway, we truly enjoyed a blissful, uncrowded day there. That's rare find in that particular area of the country.
