Discovered in 1716 and later used as a hideout for the notorious Jesse James, this large cavern contains five floors of unusual formations.

We loved the cave tour this weekend! Everyone was very friendly and the tour guide was great! He was especially good with my 6 year old who asked about 1,000 questions haha! This was a very fun family outing. We would love to come back in the summer for canoeing on the river and zipline.

Montelle Winery has commanding views and a huge deck from which to enjoy them. We ordered a couple of sandwiches and enjoyed a pleasant lunch on the deck. The sandwiches were large and delicious and were served with potato chips. Unfortunately, a number of bees were very interested in our sandwiches. We had been sitting at the edge of the deck, so we moved away and were able to finish our lunch in peace. Wine tastings are 5 samples for $5, including a souvenir wine glass.

Robertsville State Park

The Meramec River and Calvey Creek bound Roberstville State Park, creating unlimited outdoor opportunities. Boat launches and easy water access make fishing and boating along the peaceful Meramec easy. The park's landscape includes scenic bluffs along the river, and a patchwork of hardwood forests, rich river bottomlands, and clearings that date to when the park was a working farm in the early 1900s. Waterfowl lovers love Robertsville for the diversity of birds that use the park’s waters, and families love Robertsville’s quiet campgrounds and picnic areas.

Reviewed By MOTraveler175 - Saint Louis, Missouri

Robertsville has a nice, secluded campground. Facilities (bathrooms, water access) were good, about average for the MO state park system, which in my opinion is better than average nationwide.

During our trip we experienced a wiring fault in our pop up trailer, which I initially thought may have been the result of a faulty electrical connection at the camp site. The campground host and campground maintenance staff were kind enough to troubleshoot the problem with a multimeter until the problem was isolated to my trailer.

This park does offer access to the Meremac River, but we didn't use it on this trip.

Blumenhof Winery is located in the charming village of Dutzow, Missouri, the oldest permanent German settlement west of the Mississippi River, nestled in the rolling foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Blumenhof offers free tasting daily and free live entertainment every weekend, with the Brat Haus Grill open on weekends during Spring, Summer and Autumn. They have won numerous Best of Class awards in regional and international competitions. Thirty minutes from Chesterfield, less than an hour from St. Louis, just seven miles from Augusta - feel free to pack a picnic basket and head out to Blumenhof. The friendly and good-looking staff await your arrival.

I simply LOVE Blumenhof. Been coming here for years and have watched it grow into an amazing winery. So grateful they have not forgotten their roots and continue to allow customers to bring their own food. Most of the wineries do NOT allow this. However, they now have a lot more food for purchase than in past years. Wine, fruit, etc., and a area for brats, etc.

Additionally, NO COVER CHARGE to be there. You can come and enjoy the space without paying to simply enter.

Their wine selections are one of the better Missouri wines.

They usually have live musicians; again, free of charge. I only wish they would bring back Erin Bode. Miss seeing her there, drinking a glass of Vignoles, and hearing the Erin Bode group.

Make sure this place is on your list of places to visit AND you can bring your food!

First of all, if you like sangria, definitely get the sangria here! It is a smaller, newer winery, so it isn't very crowded yet. It is owned by a local family, and we love supporting good local businesses. They have events, and the scenery is lovely. We watched wild turkeys play along the edge of the field as well.

We visited this quaint little river town after reading about the Pinckney Bend Distillery in the St Louis newspaper. I have had a few gin cocktails in my life I would never say I loved gin, until now! Their gin is flavorful but is missing the bitterness that some gins have and paired with their unique Hibiscus Tonic Syrup this is a taste of paradise. Though their main focus is gin they have branched out to vodka and whiskey offerings as well. We have enjoyed watching them grow and develop from their tiny little distillery and showroom to the larger distillery across the street. What keeps us coming back is their friendly staff and enthusiasm, oh yes and the G & T's too!

What a wonderful riverfront park. Lots of tables, shelters, benches to rest on. A boat launch and plenty of parking. The river to watch in front of you, and trains to watch behind you. What's not to like? Connected to a 3 mile long walking/biking, shady trail. I came down every night (with lots of others) to watch the sun set over the river. Gorgeous!

My mother heard about this place through facebook & wanted to check it out while we were in the area for the art show at Shaw. The shop has tons in it, mostly vintage/antiques, but also some crafts from local artisans. There is a decent variety and everyone should find something interesting. Pricing is pretty reasonable, not overly inflated like some antique shops. There is also a small model train display. Overall, worth a visit if you're in the area.

Augusta Winery

Reviewed By stephenmA283AD - Belleville

Augusta winery is consistently the best winery in the Missouri River region. We are dry wine drinkers and Agusta's dry wines are consistently among the best that we've tasted. My only complaint was with their rose. Not only are there wines excellent, but their prices are the best in the area. I'll go back often.
