This house museum is located at Lenin Str., Ulyanovsk. It is a quaint area with houses of similar design & structure located all around. Vladimir Lenin's family moved here in 1878 thanks to his mother. She was a good economist who saved the money to be able to afford their first real home. Some of the original family members played a huge part in the restoration of the House Museum and donated many personal items which helped to to restore the original look of the family home. The rooms are individually named so visitors can see where each of the family members slept and lived. It is extremely well laid out and looks as if a family were still living there today. For anyone interested in Russian History and Vladimir Ilyich Lenin it is an absolute must see when visiting Ulyanovsk.

Very well maintained and easy to walk around. Fascinating experience especially when I went first time in the winter with -32 and snow everywhere! It is not just a walk in the house of Lenin but also a tour of how people used to live at the time, the kitchen and the special compartment on top of the woodstove, the central heating, the rooms and the open Chemistry book on Alexander's desk by his teacher : Mendeleyev!

Ulyanovsk has the unique claim to be the only city in Russia with a monument to a letter of the alphabet. This is because local author Nikolay Karamzin was one of the first to use the newly devised differentiation of the normal letter "e" in his writings. In Russian the letter is pronounced "YO". It definitely makes for a very unusual tourist attraction and our local guide said many people take quirky photos here by putting their two hands into the two holes sculpted in the stone over the letter "e". The monument which is made of polished brown marble is located just below the monument to Ilya Ulyanov (Lenin's father) overlooking a park which has great views of the Volga River. It is just a short walk away from the monument to Nikolay Karamzin.
