A real retreat from the world - long walks around the lake are rewarded by beautiful blossom in spring and changing leaves in autumn. The museum and hothouses and sculptures complete a great day. There are places to snack and you can hire a giant swan to paddle around on if you are feeling corny.

A great moment on September, they held Matsuri in Shrine's yard. Ube's people very nice and friendly to foreigner.

Ube used to be the most polluted city in the world. These days it is hard to believe. Along with cleaning it up they decided to create a sculpture park and have an annual competition. This is everyone's favourite because in winter they are decked out in Christmas gear.

宇部市西部地区の国道バイパスの役割で、通行無料の高架の高規格道路です。見どころはS字形状の斜張橋でとても珍しい橋です。もう一つは厚東川に掛かる橋が二階建ての橋で、独立した道路が上下に重なっています。走行のオススメは、西方面から入って宇部市街に抜けることです。高架の高い位置から右手に工場地帯、左手に宇部市街地が望めます。特に夜間の工場群夜景が素晴らしいです。

Interesting sculpture in Ube city. I go around ube by my bike and find a lot of sculptures. One of them is this sculpture. I can reach some interesting places in Ube by riding my bike.

周囲は常盤公園。とても美しい湖ですが、ここで石炭が発見されて、宇部の発展の素になったという歴史的な場所でもあります。
石炭会館の展望台から見下ろすと全景が見えて、そこが一番のビューポイントです。

南北朝時代に築庭された山口県内最古の庭園で、国指定の名勝になっている庭園が有名なお寺。拝観料は300円ですが、著名な観光地というほどではないので訪れる人もそれほどではないのか、禅刹らしい閑寂な空間を楽しむことができました。

ときわ公園の中心施設で、内部は大型のサボテンや熱帯雨林の密林。意外に充実しています。モダンアートの彫刻も野外展示されていて、こちらも必見です。
