Flowing out of the beautiful North Cascades is the Methow River. A pristine freestone Steelhead and Trout river that runs over 80 miles before its confluence at the mighty Columbia River. When you spend a day on the Methow River with one of the Globetrouters you will understand why they love their jobs. The Globetrouters staff is compiled of locally raised fly fishermen that have spent their e
Two of us had a great day on the Methow with Brandon, one of the owner/guides. We're both beginners here.We learned much about basic casts, reading the river, and fish biology. Caught some trout--well, one of us did : ). A very flexible guide service--willing to tailor the trip to meet our wants. Not a fancyservice--just local guides with lots of knowledge of local fishing and a genuine interest in giving you a great day on the river. We'll be back for Globetrouters trip--maybe for steelhead this time.

Offers a recreated settlement of the 1920s.
My wife and I spent a lot of time here learning about the settlement of Winthrop and its environs, as well as the labors of the white inhabitants and the industries that sustained the early white residents. The artifacts and posted information were fascinating; however, there was no significant information about the indigenous people of the area prior to and during its settlement. No entrance fee, though a sign atop a payment box suggests that visitors make a donation of $3 per person. This should be a stop for all visitors to Winthrop, in spite of its shortcomings relative to Native Americans.

I was hoping for more fruits and vegetables stands but after exploring all the stands I was very suppressed how good were other goods. I did but here some fresh honey for my family and some artistic jewelry ( not mentioning fruits and veggies). It is a great place to start exploring entire Methow Valley especially because here in the building of the library and community center very well stocked with bros hires and maps the Information Center is located .

A most interesting place to visit, particularly since the valley was filled with smoke drifting down from Canadian forest fires.
The tours are most informal as you are guided by one of the smoke jumpers who are on site, on standby waiting to jump at a fire.
Our guide, Brian, was a fun guy who was happy to share stories of his training and the whole smoke jumping experience. We visited the parachute packing area, saw the racks with their jump uniforms and gear, saw the supply packs that were set up to drop with the jumpers into the fire area and received a tour of their plane, which was sitting nearby waiting for a fire call. There is even a short video about the history of the school and the jump experience itself.
It's worth a visit and kids above about five would appreciate it.

A windy wooded road leads you up to Black Pine Lake campground not far from Twisp, WA. It is truly a 'hidden gem.' The lake is easily walk-around-able, the mountain views are gorgeous, the fishing is fun, and the picnic/camp sites are well maintained and clean. We visited in June when the lupine and wildflowers were in full bloom. - Fabulous -
*You might want to take mosquito repellant though.

We paddled the 10-mile stretch of the Methow River between Winthrop and Twisp. We enjoyed the scenery as well as the swift current with some riffles and standing waves. There is a transit bus that runs between the two towns, so we were able to get a shuttle for $1.00! What a bargain!

My two teenage daughters (17 and 13) went for the hour and a half long trail ride here in July. The location of the property is in a beautiful area with many views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The staff was incredibly helpful in assisting everyone with getting the best horse for each person and showing them the ropes. The horses were very sweet as well. The only complaint my 13-year-old had was that she could not trot with the horse, which was probably due to young inexperienced riders in the group. Otherwise, this was a beautiful place and a beautiful ride. Their pricing was also very reasonable. And, the stables are part of an entire resort and beautiful lodge that has all of the amenities you could want.

Whitewater rafting, scenic raft tours, river kayak tours, river tube rentals and SUP rentals in Winthrop, Washington.
For over a month I tried to reach these folks via email and phone to schedule something; they seem to be the only game in town unfortunately. I heard nothing. We got there and we contacted them right away; they had something, they didn't, they could do Sunday, they couldn't . How about Monday? Sure, when? No answer... All we really wanted to do was rent the rafts and put in somewhere but we would have taken guided tour; anything. Maybe these folks need some competition...

We arrived early in the morning to find Aeronaut Kurt checking the winds while the balloon was just starting to get filled up. That gave us an opportunity to take pictures and see the balloon up close. The flight itself, seeing the river, the patchwork of farmer's fields and mountains in the background was just gorgeous.
Kurt and Melinda were excellent hosts and the Mimosas, scones and stories after we landed were almost as good as the flight itself. Great time, great people, highly recommended.
