10 Things to Do in Tunica That You Shouldn't Miss

February 27, 2018 Etsuko Causey

At the northern reaches of the Mississippi, Tunica is one of the South’s leading entertainment destinations. Just 20 minutes from Memphis, it’s home to nine casino resorts and three championship-level golf courses, as well as Tunica RiverPark, the Tunica Queen Riverboat and the soon-to-open Gateway to the Blues Museum. Tunica is a popular starting point for the Mississippi Blues Trail, a scenic highway that winds through Mississippi and takes you to historic blues markers and landmarks.

Driving back home from Vegas to N.C. needed to stop and rest. This casino/ hotel is nice and if you are a total reward member you can get a free room. It’s better than your regular hotel. If you traveling during Sunday to Thursday you can get a cheap rate. Or you can go sign up for their free totalreward card and play at the casino hopefully you win and when you done playing you can ask their host to see if they can give you a complimentary free night.

While casino hopping last week we also spent some time here. This is a real nice looking place-going to have to stay here a night or two the next time we come down. The casino is rather long but has plenty of machines. We won a little, didn't play the machines too long. For sure we will visit again. This is a "M-Life" casino resort-not a Caesars.

Gateway To The Blues Visitor Center & Museum

We were suitably impressed with this little museum with the big information output. Learned more about the blues than we ever imagined. The videos throughout the museum tell the story of the Delta and the Blues - told by people who proudly say they are from the Delta. The artwork is outstanding - as is the display of guitars. Also impressive is the impact that the Blues had on people all over the world. British merchant marines took some of the recordings back to their home ports, including Liverpool. Yep, the Beatles' George Harrison discovered the Blues through those recordings that were brought over!

We enjoy Hollywood Casino. We usually go to Tunica once a month. We stay at Hollywood. I like the self serve soft drinks and they are the only casino besides Fitz that serves Coke products! We like to play there but don't just stay there. We play at other casinos as well.
It's not the cleanest casino especially on the weekends when it's busy. I'm a smoker and ash trays are so hard to find and when I do they are usually full and I end up emptying them myself. Honestly, this is not the only casino with this issue.
I will continue to go back because we love the hotel that much!

When my wife and I visit the casinos at Tunica, MS, I don't gamble. I always take time to visit this fine museum that does a wonderful job of displaying the area's history. It is well worth your time if you enjoy history. It's view of the Mississippi River is not to be missed either.

Casino at Fitzgeralds Hotel

You can enjoy memorable sunsets and spectacular views of the Mississippi while trying your luck at the slots or action-packed table games.

Reviewed By Tina M - Baltimore, Maryland

My husband and I just came back from spending two days at this hotel. We used to stay here often while we were dating but hadn't been in the hotel for years. It was actually the first hotel we'd ever stayed in so I was excited to be there. When we got there we were given a room with a decent view however, the windows were filled with ladybugs. We started looking up at ceiling and ladybugs were up there too. Needless to say, we were not happy. I called front desk while my husband went back to the desk. Maintenance was called.

The guy arrived with nothing in his hands. He wanted to look. As I was discussing my astonishment, he was unbothered. I asked him if he had seen this before and he said yes. He said it got really bad in the summer too. He said he would be back with a vacuum cleaner. I told him I wanted another room and he informed me the other rooms were more than likely inhabited too. He told us to call him back when (not if) they reappeared. They came right back!

We would have sought another hotel but because it was the weekend, their rates were prohibited so we co-existed with them. When we got home we had to de-bug our bags.

Not only that, half the electrical outlets didn't work and the faucet in the bathroom only ran cold water.

The only positive thing was the pool however it's only for adults. So if you thought you would leave your kids swimming while you gamble, think again.

I would hate to see this place closed because it has personal meaning to me but I do think they should take whatever measures necessary to fumigate it. And stop being so nonchalant about the issue. Other casinos down there don't have this problem. We stayed at Horseshoe for two nights and two nights at Fitzgeralds.
