Trumansburg is a village in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 1,797 at the 2010 census. The name is a misspelling of the surname of the founder, Abner Treman. (The family routinely spelled it several different ways, Truman however was not one.) The village's application for a post office preserved one of them. The Village of Trumansburg is located within the Town of Ulysses and is northwest of Ithaca, New York.

Ithaca has a number of well-regarded NY state Parks in the area, I was a little conflicted which one to see. We ended up visiting Taughannock Falls State Park on the advice we received from the owners of the B&B we were staying at. This is an amazing park with falls that give it its name. There are two ways to see the falls. The first one we stopped at is an overlook area which gives a great vista of the falls and gorge (Parking here is free), from this you can also hike the rim trail (we did not), there is also a gift shop, park info and restrooms. The second one is located near the lower falls, with a paid parking lot, the fee is $8, no charge if you have the empire pass like we do. From this lot you can take a very easy hike along a well-traveled gravel trail to get a great view of the falls. This trail is a very easy hike/walk being mainly flat with only a short incline here and there. One can also leave the trail a bit and walk on the limestone bed closer to the river if the water isn't too high. After 3/4 of a mile you arrive at the falls, being the tallest single drop waterfall east of the Rockies they are magnificent, The gorge is also beautiful with its steep cliffs and rock formations. It seems this trail can get crowded at times, it wasn’t overly so when we visited so it didn’t bother us. Also nearby is the shore of Cayuga Lake, just walk over and you get some great lakeside views, there is also a small concession stand along with some picnic tables. This park is a must visit if you are in the area.

Bet the Farm Winery began as a dream in 2006 to showcase the best in wine & food in the Finger Lakes and New York State. It has evolved into a boutique-scale winery; current production approaches 1200 cases per vintage year. Winemaker Nancy Tisch moved her wine production to a new winery & vineyard 10 minutes north of Ithaca, NY in 2018, featuring a tasting area overlooking the vineyard with Cayuga Lake and hills of Lansing and Dryden beyond. Nancy is assisted in her operations by husband & GM Kit Kalfs. Wine and food flights continue to be a highlight of sampling Nancy’s fruit-forward, complex and elegant wines.
Perfect way to spend mid to late afternoon pre dinner. Wine tasting (4 varieties) paired with cheese and chocolate nibbles while sitting on Adirondack easy chairs in the shade looking out over vineyard and distant hills. Owner very friendly and informed. We left with a Pinot Gris for $20.

Henry A. Smith Woods is a 32-acre old-growth forest located in Trumansburg, New York. It features hiking trails through this unique part of nature which has laid largely undisturbed since before the first settlers. In 1909, this undeveloped forest fragment was given by the sons of Henry Atterbury Smith (1822-1891), a New York City businessman, to the village to be forever preserved as a public park. The woods are now owned by the Cayuga Nature Center, which is committed to preserving it for future generations as an educational resource. An old-growth forest, also known as a primeval or virgin forest, is one that does not have any significant disturbance, particularly human, and usually has unique biodiversity features. Most forests in North America are secondary forests--in that they have been cut down and have since regrown. Old growth forests often have communities of plants and animals that have survived for long periods, sometimes even rare species that are not found elsewhere.
This is a beautiful protected woodland, not very large at all, and sandwiched between a couple roads, a grocery store, and a state highway/main drag. And yet once inside it's possible to forget all of that. It's also surprisingly diverse given its size. A number of trees are labeled and explained, which makes it gently educational. The canopy is quite dense, so it can be chilly in the mornings or evenings.

Salmon Pottery is an art gallery and studio in the village of Trumansburg that features the textured pottery of Mary Ellen Salmon, and a sophisticated collection of local artists and craftspeople. In the studio, Mary Ellen creates her unique ceramic work, and shares her knowledge through pottery classes. The art gallery is a welcoming place, with a great variety of media, scale, and prices; something for everyone. Sculptures by Jay Seaman adorn the front lawn, while lapidary work, fiber art, jewelry, ceramics, paintings, blown and stained glass, and paper crafts live inside. The bright yellow house sets the tone for your visit that will surely leave you smiling.

Very nice wine tasting experience. The wine they produce on site is very good. The lack of strong sun in the growing season give a wine with low alcohol and tannins which we like. Sort of like wines from Burgundy.
