The Great Western Trail runs for several miles on BLM land. The rock formations are multi colored , extremely varied and the views of the valley are breath taking..This is the Velvet Ridge.. Maps are available as are ATV rentals at the Thousand Lakes Campground for those who don't bring their own.. Thousand Lakes is a Good Sam campground and, in our opinion, the best in the Torrey area; well worth the the costs..If we are to pass that way again, we will definitely stay there again and longer..

After moving from Utah it's been awhile since I could visit Torrey. This store doesn't have the cheap touristy souvenirs, but handmade items from local artists. Everything I bought felt so much more like I was taking a piece of Torrey and Capitol Reef with me. I got a painting, mosaic, a rock with a local petroglyph painted on, Christmas tree ornament, necklace, a magnet for the fridge, and printed cards. I found so much more I wanted, like home decor, quilts, birdhouses, books, kids toys, kitchenware. Everything is unique. I also have to note how much I appreciated the safety precautions they took, offering face masks and hand sanitizer. Great experience and I definitely plan to return.

My husband and I took a 2 hour horseback ride with MaryLou on a sparking May morning! The Capitol Reef rimrock scenery was spectacular. Our guide MaryLou was expert not only about horses but also had encyclopedic knowledge about geology plants and trees. The horses were well cared for and well mannered. Thank you MaryLou and Wilderness Adventures
