Texas City Museum

Local History Museum featuring artifacts from the USS Westfield (including a real Civil War cannon), exhibits on the founding of Texas City and the 1947 Disaster, Children's Discovery Room and model train layouts.

We visited this museum recently and enjoyed every bit of what was open. We enjoyed learning more about the Texas City Disaster and seeing the photos. The twin sisters that work there were so interesting and helpful too. We told them that my husband lived here during that time and was 2 1/2 when this blast took place. We wondered if we could find his old house. One of the ladies made a copy of the 1947 phone book and we were able to find his family listed and lo and behold we found the house! We couldn't have done it without the docent's help. Anyhow this is a great little museum with great history of the area. I'm sure it would be even more enjoyable when the rest of it is opened back up after closing due to Covid.

Texas City Dike

Reviewed By Stay422807 - Texas City, United States

It was a daily ritual for me and my boyfriend to take a ride down the TC Dike during the Covid 19 shutdown. We would watch all the fishermen with their catches on the ride to the end (5 miles) where we would park and watch the dolphins frolic. It's a nice outing and free to Texas City residents only. Out of town guests will have to stop and pay a toll. (Usually $10 per vehicle) There is also a beach at the end and "Skyline Drive" is included where you can watch all the kite boarders and wind surfers perform their tricks.

Definitely some good stores and sales and well worth it on a rainy day. We went shopping on our way home from Galveston and had really fun. Love that you can walk outdoors and push a stroller. Nice area and lots of things to go in a buy. Definitely recommend it.
