Walking up from the road, you pass the socialist-style Palazzo Communale and go left into the medieval. Built on the remains of a Roman temple, the church was renovated throughout the centuries but retains some of its Romanesque and some of its later Baroque. Being renovated again now! Best seen as a part of Terracina: the Roman temple to Jove, the Catholic Cathedral, the fascist Palazzo. History is here.

Nothing to say about the actual ruins and the view, here only to comment on the bar at the very top. Place has a nice setting with a great view but the actual service is terrible plus the cocktails are very very bad.... I think the bar tender doesn't know what is doing at all..... I highly raccomend to go for a glass of prosecco or wine but stay away from any kind of cocktail

Alta Terracina is the old Terracina and it a masterpiece of preRoman and Medieval architecture. Step back in time and walk up and down the narrow streets. Nothing bigger than a small Fiat would fit through some of the streets.
I have been back many times and will be back again next year!

The bulding is not impressive. But inside a fascinating glimpse at funerary practices of the Italian past. The church is filled with skeletons, skull, bones of the dead. A bit creepy, perhaps, but look into the history to discover a skeleton holding a banner that translates, "Today it is me. Tomorrow it is you."

From a distance this rock face is magnificent. It is best viewed from the Port of Terracina with the Temple overlooking it.
When you approach it, the view is still good and you will note that someone has carved out an entrance way and there seems to be windows up high. There is a rumour that a criminal used it as a hideout.
There is an arch there that marks the path of the Appian Way, but there is no physical evidence of the road at this location, just a monument.
If you were to leave now, you would give it a higher rating, so if you want to keep that thought, don't try to walk up the side of the cliff on the right side which is easily negotiable. Thousands before did just that and left more rubbish than I thought possible. There are truckloads of rubbish from clothing to food tins to shoes, sleeping bags and garbage bags. It looks like people camped there and just trashed the place.
If you were going to have the Olympics of Rubbish, it would be held here.
I have written many reviews especially in Italy which I and my family love to visit, but sadly this place needs a little TLC.
If you want to enjoy this natural area, enjoy it from the parking lot and take photos from the harbour. I hope that this is helpful.

The entrance to old Terracina. Beautiful arch in the Roman style. Over two thousand years old, be sure to notice the indications of the Roman Republic when you walk through into history.

The ruins are located on a very interesting location, surrounded by buildings of different times. Houses nearby have fallen and new ruins are being discovered, it is hard to believe that so many buildings are in such a small place.
