The one and only public emerald mine in the world, covering 69 acres.
If you are in the market for affordable, amazing family fun. If you love to get dirty, and dig for hidden treasures, then this is absolutely the place for you. My family loves it here. This September was our 3rd visit. We leave still thinking about our fun for months. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for something different. And we will be returning.

One of Catawba County's 'secret' gems! Spent a couple hours having a picnic then hiking with a group of friends on a lovely Spring afternoon. Numerous picnic sites, some right by the Catawba River. Well-cleared and well-marked hiking trails of varying degrees. Most are moderate. Benches scattered throughout the park thanks to an Eagle Scout project a few years ago. Staff are helpful and restrooms very clean. Nature center often has displays.

Spent the weekend in Love Valley and ate all our meals at the Silver Spur. They are very accommodating going out of their way to make our large group of 50 people feel welcomed and well fed. The meals were fantastic and the prices more so. The employees were very friendly.

I've been to 2 games this month with my family. We enjoyed great seats, fun times, good ball park food and drinks, easy parking and the entry was about what I would have paid to go see a movie. These players are fun to watch!

This multifaceted outdoor area is great in all seasons but spring and fall are especially nice with lovely flora everywhere. It's fun to wade in the lake on a hot summer day.

Visit the world’s first stillhouse to legally use Wilkes County’s traditional steam-injected distillation method and you’ll discover why many experts consider our award-winning moonshines to be the world’s finest and most authentic American spirits. We invite you to tour our facility to learn about our unique distillation process and sample our handcrafted spirits made from locally sourced grains and water we extract on-site from the Crystalline-Rock aquifer.
I am not easily surprised by distillation processes after 20+ distillery tours, but this one was unexpected. Unique mash bill and distillation system. Best White Dog I have ever tasted. We got to sample some of their small batch experiment new products. Impressed! This is...MoreThanks for the fantastic 5-star review. It's a shame you had to leave so soon. :-) We sincerely look forward to raising your spirits even higher in the future. Until we meet again, keep on shining!

I volunteer at a local facility and over time, I have driven by numerous signs pointing to the Bunker Hill Covered Bridge. Always curious but never felt I had the time till yesterday when I was running early.
Decided to take the turn off of US 70 and satisfy my curiosity.
Should have done this a long time ago. Not a staffed facility and pretty much you're on your own but it's very much self explanatory.
Covered Bridges, once common are now rare. Original construction on this one dates back to the 1890's but has a historical link via the Island Ford Road back to Kings Mountain in the 1780's and the battle for King's Mountain.
In autumn, a beautiful walk. If you are a fan of architecture and engineering, you will appreciate the construction of the bridge.
For the nature lover, you will love the setting and the serenity of the area, particulary in the autumn splendor.
Only downside is the crass and immature behavior of some patrons with the graffiti they leave behind.
Such a shame and a desecration of that which is simple but beautiful and historically significant to our heritage.

Home to unusual cacti plants, this site offers a multitude of outdoor activities from hiking and biking to hang-gliding and parasailing.
We had a beautiful day stretching out in front of us and wanted to get outside, maybe did some hiking, but we didn't want to drive too far. In just over an hour from our home, we were on the hiking trails at Rocky Face. There's something here for everyone- easy to challenging trails, lots of gorgeous views, short hikes, longer hikes, wonderfully marked trails, and a great rock climbing area (we saw several lessons in progress). We chose the "moderate to strenuous" hike and had no trouble. We hiked down the blue trail (Grindstone) which was the most challenging part of the hike, but not hard. If the rock had been wet, it would have been a lot harder, so bear that in mind. We are so glad we found this little recreation area.

We surprised our son with flyboarding for his birthday yesterday and it was absolutely amazing and our son was a natural. Ashley was a great teacher all it took was 5 minutes of telling him how to do it and he had it instantly! We will definitely be back again and again! Thank you Ashley for helping us give our son a wonderful surprise !
