We visited this reborn monastic site on the way to Rhzev and are glad we did. Left in neglect during the Soviet era and damaged by the occupying Germans in 1941 this complex has now been restored and is again functioning. It dates from the days of 'Ivan The Terrible' and a church he ordered constructed in the 1500's is now open to visitors. The whole complex is very neat and tidy and a VERY RELAXING way to spend on the banks of the Volga as it winds its way through this peaceful area of the Russian countryside.
As an aside you can see what a New Russian billionaire can do with his money - restore to its former magnificent glory an old church and dedicate it to his deceased parents whose remains are interred there.

Дорога отвратительная, но стоит потерпеть, что бы увидеть это чудо. Нам повезло и в храме была бабулька, которая рассказала об истории его. Невероятная акустика!

Что годать, когда, как и кто бы взялся восстановить, монастырь на противоположном берегу красив, особенно весной, в ледоход. Вот тут надо успеть прогуляется, представить как была жизнь в лучшие времена))) для памятника истории.

В районе города есть несколько старых каменоломен, где добывали старицкий белый камень, использовавшийся в строительстве и украшении каменных строений древней Руси. Примерно с XIV века.
Протяженность каменоломен по нескольку километров, поэтому заблудиться без проводника можно легко.
Ходили с 10-летней дочерью. Она была в восторге. Как и мы.

Интересный и хорошо сохранившийся монастырь. Конечно, дойти до него не просто, особенно по слякоти, но оно того стоит - и с т.з. самого монастыря, и с т.з. вида вокруг.

Поздняя осень не лучшее время посещение Старицы, а вот прогуляется в длительной поездке и ножки размять, самый раз, место то замечательное. Церковь по прежнему открыта для всех, удобная парковка рядом и до моста через Волгу с обзором на монастыри, в трех шагах.

Недействующая церковь, которая однако не заброшена: окна застеклены и видно, что за зданием хоть как-то, но следят. Церковь эту можно принять за отдельно стоящую колокольню рядом расположенная Борисоглебского собора, однако это самостоятельный храм.

Вероятно, имеется ввиду часовня Георгия Победоносца, расположенная на территории Свято-Успенского монастыря. Часовня восстановлена на месте старой часовни 1914 года постройки, разобранной в советское время. Интересной архитектурной особенностью часовни является печная труба, торчащая из купола!

Не соблюдают график работы, заявлено с 10 до 17. В 10:25 то ли еще не открылись, то ли решили устроить себе выходной по случаю праздника.
