The tour of the Horton Plains and the trek to World’s End was an absolute pleasure as it allowed us a sneak peek to the wonders of the diverse wilderness available in Sri Lanka and to various natural marvels that Sri Lanka has to offer. It is also the home to a large number of endemic birds and wildlife and is indeed a must do when one is visiting the beautiful Nuwaraeliya in Sri Lanka. The splendid tour and the experience of visiting the Horton Plains and the trek to the World’s End was guided by the very experienced and capable Naturalist Hashan attached to the Grand Hotel Nuwaraeliya and, Harshana who indeed drove us safely to and from the Horton Plains. I would definitely recommend them to all thinking of visiting Nuwaraeliya.

This is a very beautiful temple to worship the Lord Buddha. A very sacred area and shoes must be removed of course, however they are removed before you enter the grounds which are quite extensive so do remember to wear socks as the sand and paving stones can be very very hot! There are places around where worshippers leave flowers and gifts for the Buddha and pray. Inside the temple there is a marvellous gold sleeping Buddha covered with the finest muslin or silk. The frescos are very old and tell the story of the temple. A very beautiful sacred place.

Sri Dalada Maligawa (Sinhala: ශ්රී දළදා මාළිගාව) or The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex which houses the Relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple. The temple which houses the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is one of the holiest shrines in the entire Buddhist world.
Fantastic temple and we were lucky enough to have an excellent bespoke guide who was able to explain the history of the Sacred Tooth Relic and all it means to the Sri Lankan Buddhist followers. A definite must to visit and try to plan your visit during one of the thrice daily "prayer" times.

Located on the Beira Lake, Gangaramaya temple is built in an unusual mix of Indian, Thai, Chinese and Sri Lankan architectural styles. The temple complex comprises a cluster of shrines that surround a peaceful courtyard, with a dagoba at the centre. The museum just off the courtyard displays various gifts donated to the temple over the years, ranging from Buddhist statues to vintage cars. As with any Buddhist temple, visitors must first take off their shoes before entering; however, the floor tends to get heated very quickly, so it is wise to take a pair of socks with you.

The Negombo Fish Markets are more than just a place that sells fish. This is where the fishing catch is unloaded, scaled, cut up and then dried out. There is fish as far as the eye can see. This whole process is messy, it smells, but is so unusual. The area of the fishing vessels stretches for a long way and it is an amazing experience to wander around. A must see in Negombo.
