Soquel Vineyards was established in 1987 when twin brothers Peter and Paul Bargetto, and their childhood friend Jon Morgan decided to develop their own label and ended up producing some of the best wines in the Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation. The partners have been producing award winning wines since the very beginning, most recently scoring a Best of Class, Double Gold, and three additional Gold medals at the 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Fruit is sourced from the appellation, as well as Napa Valley, Lodi, Paso Robles, etc. Varietals include Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo, Zinfandel, Chardonnay -- and signature blends including Trinity Rosso, Intreccio and beginning in 2016, Consonante! The Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation is one of the up-and-coming areas in California. Plan a visit soon!
These guys are incredible. My favorite winery on the Central Coast. My daily driver comes from there... and special wines too are some of the best. You can't beat the hospitality, these guys are super. And make good pizza too. It should be one of your stops on any trip to Santa Cruz. I go every chance I get, and have taken everyone who comes to town. Since I came home, I subscribe and buy cases from time to time. Love the wine, miss the people!

Ana Jean Cummings, known affectionately as Blue Ball Park because of the giant blue balls that are art at the park. Such a great park! It is pretty accessible, has eating areas for parties and picnics but it's fairly small and low key in the busy season. Best for rolling down the hill and getting grassy!!

I've gone off-trail wandering on foot without really scratching the surface as far as foraging, birding, and hiking possibilities are concerned. Most of the others one sees in the parking area are mountain bikers who use the road to access trails that I stay away from since there are mountain bikers zipping up and down on them. Plenty of elbow room, however, if you don't mind drifting off the road a little.
