I would echo all the positive comments below. Not only are the cave paintings fascinating, but the location with its wide views of the countryside and quiet isolation add greatly to the experience. As mentioned previously, a permit is needed from a government office in Hargeisa ($25), and an armed guard is obligatory for any travel outside the City limits (I'm sure this is more to do with local employment rather than danger) So, by the time you have your vehicle, driver, guide and guard it's not exactly a cheap excursion, but worth every dollar. Take a picnic as there are no refreshments available, and a few sweets or chocolate for the young children minding goats who will rush over to meet your vehicle as it passes.

I explored the market with a guide, which probably lends to a different experience than exploring it solo, but it felt very safe. The locals seemed surprised to see a foreigner, but they were friendly and curious. It didn't feel as hectic as other African markets, but make sure you know where you are going so you can find your way out easily. I recommend asking people before taking their photos as most of them were hesitant, even when asked by the local guide. This market is a great example of everyday life in Hargeisa and is definitely worth a stop.

This is such a beautiful place and a very interesting. It was my first stop upon my arrival into Somaliland. Watching how the locals go about their daily lives. I was offered five goats in exchange for marriage, this made me laugh. On the sides you can see local ladies using skin to make yoghurt and milk.

The brand new and relatively ultramodern building here is much more than just a bank building. It will also house the first truly modern Business mall in Hargeisa, which is substantial in size, Dahabshiil Business Centre is the tallest building in Somaliland
I love it . This is tallest building in the city. Damal restaurant is in there. The have elevators. My family loved to visit this place.

I visited here with my son and father from the Uk. We have a lovely couple of hours walking around the two rooms with Mr Hussein the founder and manager, and then chatting away under the trees in English over a drink in the courtyard afterwards. It is in 2 large rooms and is really just getting started. Mr Hussein was full of stories about Somaliland, it’s foundations and the objects he has personally collected. It was a lovely stop and I don’t suppose there are many visitors each day. I really hope he continues to bring even more of Somaliland’s culture and history to life here.

A great monument and source of pride for Somaliland. Around the monument is packed with people. Most of them friendly. An older man stopped me to tell me all about the monument, the fighting, and about the plane itself. The monument is unfortunately falling into poor condition.
