I wanted to just stay there looking at the beautiful scenery around. The climate was very good during our visit and we enjoyed the outdoor experience of just walking around the lake soaking in the beauty of nature.

While tandem flying from Mount Jenner in Berchtesgaden, we oversee the emerald green Königssee lake as a whole from the air. Discover the towering Watzmann, the western shore of the lake with the pilgrimage chapel of St. Bartholomä, the village Schönau am Königsee and in the north the Kehlsteinhaus. Free as a bird, we fly over the Berchtesgaden National Park with all its sights and experience everything from a unique perspective.

The emerald-green Königssee near Berchtesgaden is surrounded by steep walls of rock, with the 1800-metre east wall of the Watzmann towering above its west shore.
Konigssee was not my first choice for day trip. However, it was a rainy day so I thought it was better to visit lake than mountain as it would be too cloudy/foggy to see anything from the mountain. We were not disappointed. The lake was beautiful. We alighted at Salet and walked to the Obersee. The walk was very scenic. If we had more time we would have walked to Fischunkelalm Farm. Please allocate more time so that you can take your time to enjoy the beauty of this place!

Lying in majesterial aura and aloofness, surrounded by towering rock faces, the emerald Königssee resembles a fjord set in the Bavarian alps. A sightseeing trip is an unique experience at any time of the year: in spring, mighty waterfalls thunder down over the steep rocks into the lake. Summer brings a rich, green contrast to the barren rock. Autumn paints a colourful tone poem of incomparable splendour. And if ice conditions allow, winter presents an unforgettable landscape.

I took two of my kids up the Jennerbahn (15 and 11). It was after we had gone to Konigsee. There was a festival in Berchtesgaden, and so the rides up were free (with voluntary donations) and there was no line to go up or down. At the foot of the cable car, they had a tent stand giving out free beers, sodas, and snacks. The cable car only went to the first stop (maybe half way up the mountain). But when we got there, they had music going, a restaurant, and it was very festive. The views were spectacular just as they were everywhere in Berchtesgaden. My kids had a really great time. If you have kids (or not), I would definitely recommend doing this.

Doing the boat trip on Königssee to visit the St. Bartholomew's Church is a must do when visiting Berchtesgaden. Here you will also find a restaurant where you can enjoy the great sceneries. It´s a quite expensive boat ride, but it´s highly worth it.
