Striving to preserve an Edwardian atmosphere, this museum houses a variety of general collections.
This is an absolutely fabulous museum. A must for anyone visiting Whitby. So quirky and fun and informative. From a mummified hand (a burglar’s lucky charm) to a cannon from the battle of Trafalgar, there is something for everyone. We ranged in age from 75 to 15 and everyone was happy. Lovely staff too.

BLUE BADGE PARKING ONLY IS AVAILABLE. OTHER PARKING PLEASE USE LOCAL PAY & DISPLAY. Head through the imposing gatehouse and step into 3,000 years of history. Explore the castle headland with one of our experienced guides for FREE or embark on your own journey through history with one of our audio tours and gain a fascinating insight into its past, from Iron Age settlements, to the Roman signal station and medieval chapel. The castle's heyday was in the 12th century when it was developed by Henry II and King John. This mighty castle has seen action in some of England's most defining battles. It was twice besieged by Parliamentarians in the Civil War, and has defended king and country from the Jacobites, Napoleon and the German Kaiser, when it came under bombardment during the First World War.
Scarborough Castle is steeped in history and the dominant landmark over this lovely seaside town. It is owned by English Heritage and so is free to members. I would advise that it is best visited on a lovely, bright blue sky day (any time of year though) to get the best ambience. The sun lighting up the stonework is awesome and we saw enjoyed it today on a lovely winter outing! You only need to spot the castle as you approach Scarborough to realise that there is a bit of a pull to get up there, but the paths are good. A lovely very unspoiled historical site with no gimmicks - bliss! There are picnic tables and light refreshments available. Dog friendly too. Whether local or a visitor do take a look. We love it.

Fabulous outdoor tea room. Magical setting in beautiful woodland with a spectacular waterfall. Friendly staff. Food was epic. The best bacon cobs we have ever had. Tasty nachos. Great cake. Just wish now we had tried the fabulous looking scones too. Good size teapots. Fire pit with marshmallows to toast for the children. Lovely play area. Some of the seating was undercover. Our boys (6 and 3) thought it was so awesome we had to return for a second visit during our half term holiday in North Yorkshire. They are still talking about their visit to the falling foss.

A good walk from the scarborough spa, where they had a band playing, walk along the sea front, with plenty to see n do, the harbour is a good place to sit n watch too, the stroll to the North bay is a nice walk, with the castle ruins above you and sea to watch the dolphins playing, we were lucky enough to spot dolphins a few times, we went to visit Peasholm park, which I know from when I was a child and we used to holiday in Scarborough, many moons ago...the sea life centre is at the far point in the North Bay.... we were lucky with the weather and was able to enjoy the view in the sunshine....
