Situated at 12m underground in the centre of Saumur, the Louis de Grenelle wine cellars have been producing, in the purest tradition, Cremant de Loire and Saumur Brut ever since 1859. In this former tufa quarry, you will discover the secrets of traditional wine-producing methods. After the guided tour there will be a commented wine-tasting session. You will also be able to discover wine in a wine-dedicated space.
Not sure if they normally charge for the tour as we got a free pass when we visited the Chateaux. It was interestingvas it is another region outside Champagne which makes traditional sparkling wine. The tour of the cellars in the caves was interesting and...MoreThanks for sharing your experience about our family house. We are glad you enjoyed the wine tasting and the visit! It will be a pleasure to welcome you again for your next stay in Loire Valley. See you next time ! Le service des visites,

This museum has one of the best collection of tanks and armoured cars in Europe. From early Renault Tanks from WW1 to full size King Tigers. The WW2 collection is amazing from UK, USA, Russian and German tanks and transport. The history of armour is covered from WW1 to current times and look out for the WW2 alligator used in Vietnam and one of the tanks dropped into Dien Bien Phu ...this is amazing but this for boys and gearheads only

A family-owned company since 1885, Langlois-Chateau offers a unique tour of the entire winery, including a view of the vineyards, the pressing centre and the caves. The tour culminates in a complete guided wine tasting session in the boutique. The tour lasts one hour:*Act1, Wine school: a foundation course in oenology in our classroom,*Act2, Tour of Winery: pressing machines, Tanks, vats,*Act3, Tour of caves, 300meters to discover the "traditionnal method".*Act4, taste whites (Saumur Whites, Sancerre...), Rosés (Cabernet de Saumur...), reds (Saumur, Saumur Champigny), and our sparkling Crémants de Loire.
The tour of this boutique family winery is structured very well. You start in a classroom setting learning the basis of wine-making and then you tour the site and end with wine-tasting. Our guide was excellent. The caves used for the production of the sparkling wines were vast and impressive. It was only the wine tasting portion of the experience that was average. Nevertheless, I do recommend a stop here as you explore the chateaus of the Loire Valley.

Well organized and great guide-I really got to see the importance of horses in eras past--a number of the "in the air" maneuvers originated as battle moves in the middle ages.
The discipline and devotion to even be accepted at this school indicate a life long passion and our society's continued adoration of horses.
What a facility--worth the visit even for a non horsey person like me.
The gift shop had some beautiful items.

An interesting visit that shows what can be done with a little imagination and a lot of skill. But I would not waste my money buying a "duel" ticket for a visit to the Museé de champignon

Closes at noon! How crazy is that for a tourist office. There were 6 people at the door when we arrived. So we pointed out the hours. If you want their help, check the website for opening hours.

I am not really a military history buff but we spent an interesting and informative hour here. No English tours but most of the exhibits have English information.

You'll learn so much about mushrooms and cultivating the, when you take this interesting tour. The caves are interesting and there is an array of mushrooms to see and learn about. Our guide had no command of English so our group leader has to translate. So make sure you call ahead to have a guide that speaks your language.

A symbol of the town of Saumur, the château is an old fortress that was converted into a palace by the Dukes of Anjou (14th and 15th centuries), including King René. It then became the residence of the town’s governors, a prison, then a depot for arms and munitions. In 1906, the town bought the château from the State to house its municipal museum, which has since earned the Musée de France label. A rich collection of decorative arts currently occupies the first floor of the north and east wings. Part of the horse collection, featuring objects from Antiquity to the early 20th century, is on display in the old abbey church. The château Gardens offer exceptional panoramic views of the Loire and the town. In the summer, there are activities for all the family.
We hadn't visited this chateau for many years, so it was good to go back. It's within walking distance from the town, just a steep climb! But it's easy enough to drive up and park the car right outside. We were lucky to have a guided tour in English just after we arrived, which didn't cost any extra, considering the entrance fee was very reasonable, and the really enthusiastic young lady guide made the history so enjoyable. The equestrian exhibition was good, and the porcelain exhibits really worth seeing, along with so many huge tapestries. The views from here are just stunning. There's a little café in the chateau grounds and another café opposite. This magnificent chateau is definitely worth a visit.

We visited Gratien and Meyers Saumur wine caves last week and took advantage of the guided tour at a most reasonable cost of €3 per person. The lady on the reception desk was most helpful and the guide spoke very good English and was most informative during the interesting tour. Well Recommended.
