Soaring Hawk is a "nano-boutique" winery on the beautiful backroads of Santa Margarita. We offer free tastings and wine education with the winemaker and owners. Guests receive a welcoming, personal experience here and can stand at the tasting bar or can be seated at a shady table overlooking oaks and grassy meadows. We are open by appointment daily and during industry-wide event weekends. Same day appointments are often available, but we recommend you book ahead to ensure you're not disappointed.
TIRED of crowded tasting rooms and feeling like you need to own a Rolex to fit in? Try SOARING HAWK VINEYARDS. It's a little off the beaten path. But the drive is beautiful and even if you miss the turn off (Las Pilitas) you can enjoy the scenery while being lost. Joe and Jill are gracious hosts. The atmosphere is casual (lawn furniture and classic rock). The views are pastoral and (save the best for last) the wine, overall, is pretty darn good! I have my personal favorites but I'd say that with their selection of varietals there is something for everyone. Two notes: Call ahead, they want a little time to spend with their clients AND, they have "Goldens", so schedule a little time for wrestling with a dog toy or playing fetch. An afternoon well spent.

Our estate Margarita Vineyard stands alone as the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles region, tucked against the Santa Lucia Mountains just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Here the vines unfold along a rare array of five distinct soil types- ancient sea bed, rocky alluvium, shale, volcanic and granitic. The resulting wines express an unmistakable sense of place with flavors that are native to Margarita Vineyard and its stand alone Santa Margarita Ranch Sub Appellation. Ancient Peaks Winery is owned by three longtime local winegrowing and ranching families- the Filipponis, Rossis, and Wittstroms. Two generations are actively involved in the daily operations of the vineyard and winery. Our downtown Santa Margarita Tasting Room & Cafe offers samplings of our wines as well as wine friendly cuisine including artisan cheese and meats.
My wife and I had the pleasure of sharing a bottle of the 2017 Renegade wine and a charcuterie plate at Ancient Peaks winery. It is not too common to find a tasting room that provides substantial food along with the wine tasting; Ancient Peaks has hit on a winning formula. We were impressed with the wines Ancient Peaks produces, especially considering the price. As you can see in the picture, the large charcuterie plate is very generous, with 3 types of meat, 4 cheeses, and assorted accompaniments; you also receive a warm loaf of delicious bread. While its a little out of the way from Paso or San Luis, if you are on the move between these 2 places, it is well worth your time to stop and taste/eat at Ancient Peaks!
