A closed water supply from a natural spring at one end creates a unique environment for plants and animals found only on this river also popular with swimmers, snorkelers and for inner tubing.
This river has amazed me since I was just a toddler. We took our yearly summer vacation in the New Braunfels/San Marcos area. Dad would drive us all around the river road and we would stop at each crossing, wade in the water, and skip rocks.
Now I shoot photos with my camera and stick my toes in the cool, crystal clear water and remember the memories of the past.
It is such a fantastic place for families to enjoy Texas nature.

This weekend we went to ride the glass bottom boat at the old Aquarena Springs which is now called The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. Our Texas State student guides were very knowledgeable about the Springs and its history. There is also a free museum/aquarium and a short trail. We didn’t know about these ahead of time and didn’t allow time for these activities. Next time we will plan on spending an hour and a half to see these other attractions as well.
We arrived about 15 minutes before the half hour tour began and had plenty of time to get our tickets and admire the beautiful, old trees that surround the Springs.

Have visited this facility several times. They maintain these flying aircraft from WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. They also have a great museum of artifacts along with the aircraft. They welcome you to their place. They will guide you thru their collection and give informative information on all their display. What a great facility!

This brewery is a really great, indoor-outdoor spot to sit and have a beer. It is kid and dog friendly. There are yard games set-up (jenga, washers, etc.), a food truck and a roof top balcony. The beer is also very good. Very nicely situated on the drive between Wimberley and San Marcos.

We visited the Wonder World Park with a Pogopass on the way to the airport to pass a few hours. The caves were fine, a few steep steps and a few small puddles. The guide was informative . It was lit up with hand rails. The observation tower was ok, the lift up looked scary but did the job. The upside down house was fun. The train ride was enjoyable, buy some deer food and feed the deers out your hand, kids loved it. It passed 2 hours.
