Salt Spring Island Cheese Company makes both sheep and goat milk cheeses. Come visit us on the farm where we are located, and sample all of our cheeses. There are windows into every room of our facility, so you can also see the entire cheesemaking process from start to finish.
We live on Salt Spring but take all our visitors to Salt Spring Cheese. Not only do they have extensive tastings in their sale room but you can walk through the premises looking at how the cheese is made. Lots of cute animals, sheep, goats and chickens, especially so in spring when the babies are bouncing around. A good outside cafe and garden to eat in. Lovely farm.

This is a fantastic park with stunning views of the water which you can get right into if you so wished! You can spend a day here if you had time as there are many picnic tables and places to just sit and watch the marine traffic, Ferries to and from Vancouver island, birds, etc., etc.! Just a very serene place to be.

Last time we had a great hike with our kids. This time we let our friend with fear of heights behind and brought some Australians up for the view. We made it up just fine in a mini van with four adults. Last time we had six. The road is rough but just take your time and you will be fine. Everyone was good about pulling aside and passing. The outhouse was clean and unlike last time we did not have to wait a half hour for an unwell child. It was a long wait when you just get out of the car after a bumpy road. The views are amazing and so worth the trip.

I imagine the number of people today was down due to the fair being on. It made for easier navigating. We missed a couple of venders we visited last time we were on the Island. There was Lots to see. Prices are great for some things and not for others.

The Salt Spring Visitor Centre is located in the heart of downtown Ganges at 121 Lower Ganges Rd. Our knowledgeable volunteer counsellors offer a wealth of information and want to ensure you experience an unforgettable visit. Free local maps, ferry and bus schedules, and our brochure can be picked up at any time. We have free wifi and a payphone is conveniently located outside our door. Tour and local buses stop right outside our front door. There is a bicycle rack available and parking is located behind the Visitor Centre.Unfortunately our building is too old to be handicap accessible but if you visit the Chamber of Commerce office at parking lot level, a counsellor will be happy to bring information to you! Shops, galleries, restaurants, parks and more are a short stroll from the Visitor Centre. See you on Salt Spring Island!
The Saltspring Visitor's centre had lots of useful information, not only about Saltspring but of all the Gulf Islands which was helpful since we were on our way through to Galiano and Mayne Islands. The best thing we discovered was the local Model Train display,...MoreThank you for your review Cherie! We hope you enjoyed your visit to the Southern Gulf Islands.

This is great location to visit & enjoy the sites/ sounds of Ganges Inner Harbour. You have options of utilising the docks or take in the local entertainment.
During the summer months there is a Saturday market where everything sold must be made on the Island. It's amazing. Besides this market there is the multi level Mouats where you can buy toys, kitchenwares, garden supplies, etc.. There are ice cream shops, parks, lots of small unique clothing boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, toy stores, art galleries and all the main commerce like banks, real estate, etc.. It's the jumping off point for the outdoor enthusiasts like kayakers, canoers, boaters. It takes a couple days to see everything and even then you have to come back a few times to ensure you get it all. I've been to Salt Spring now 5 times and I haven't seen all of the Harbour yet.

A great spot for beer tasting, with a fun ambiance, a patio surrounded by woods & most importantly an interesting selection of traditional & inspired brews. The constant offerings include a golden ale, dry porter, odd fellows IPA, heather ale & ESB. For seasonal beers, there's a fun earthy tasting nettle beer, with the nettles all having been picked by staff from the property above the brewery. The water used by the brewery is also from a natural spring on-site. But the best beer is the earl grey IPA 7.4%, which has a subtle flavour of bergamot oil - added after brewing & gives a hint of citric flavour & a crisp finish - just awesome! Loved the location & beers - our only suggestion for improvement would be to give tasting guide info for the seasonal beers, as when you order your flight or beer, there's none of that info on view.

A single artist gallery on one of Canada's Gulf Islands. Really an Art Lovers Getaway. Jill travels and paints in various parts of the world. She has many collections on her website and over 300 paintings currently in print. Jill has had galleries of her own for more than 20 years. Her personal gallery on Salt Spring Island is definitely the best place to view her art plus have a chance to meet in person. She paints primarily in watercolour but that tends to be just the start as she then incorporates prayer flags... Pen and ink... Gold leaf and whatever gives the effect she is seeking. Always vibrant and uplifting. The gallery is now open daily in the summer and three days a week the rest of the year.
We were waiting for a table across the way at the Tree-House Cafe and happened upon this gallery. Glad we did - her artwork made us feel happy! Inspired: her artwork is beautiful Atmosphere: great art gallery Service: excellent and friendly! Parking: free in parking...Morewhat can be better than cruising through some beautiful art followed up with a great organic meal at the Tree House...... come back and see us again. Duart

The trails are well market and moderate. If your looking for a longer trail park at Collins road and go up from there. The Trustee trail entrance point is already half way up the mountain. Some locals park at Booth Canal road and do the Collins road / trustee trail loop. It work out to approx 9km loop with 400m elevation gain. The vistas are fab from the summit. BC parks has added sign post maps which will help the tourist from getting lost. Any good phone gps hiking app should have most of the trails. Do take water and a snack.
