He was an avid collector of, well, everything - paintings, coins, textiles, jewelry, arms, and furniture, to name some of his interests. There are a couple of design exhibitions at the moment as part of the Madrid design festival. One focuses on a contemporary designer, Patricia Urquiola who has produced some lovely work although with overcomplicated explanations and another exhibition looks at 100 objects and how their design has evolved to make them more user friendly, more beautiful, smaller...There is a further room full of, 'astral objects' There is some explanation in English which is helpful. Very interesting overall and free.

This is considered to be the first modern post-Roman triumphal arch built in Europe even older than the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. It was a gate in the former Walls of Felipe IV and stands near the main entrance to the Parque del Buen Retiro. Today it is in the centre of a very busy traffic intersection and it’s difficult to take photos because of the continual stream of traffic.
