Toledo has a wonderful art museum and glass pavilion but whenever they have special exhibitions they are worth seeing. The current Egypt exhibit is very good. Check out the info on their website about mummy movies shown because I don't remember dates or times, unfortunately we didn't plan well to see it all in one trip! We loved the exhibit though.

I have taken several classes at 577. Jewelry making was my favorite I went into the "classroom" and found several different stones and beads. I made three pair of earrings and a necklace. The lady who was teaching the class had several helpful hints to make things go smoothly she was very helpful. My husband also singled me up to a a basket weaving class of all things not at all my favorite but the other people in the class and the persons teaching the class made it more fun than it would have been otherwise.

Fort Meigs Ohio's War of 1812 Battlefield

Built during the War of 1812 by William Henry Harrison, Fort Meigs successfully defended Ohio from a combined force of British and Native Americans during the spring and summer of 1813. It also served as the step-off point for General Harrison's invasion of Canada in the fall of that year. Reconstructed in the 1970s and again in 2000 on its original location, Fort Meigs stands today to tell the story of the thousands of soldiers who lived, fought, and died there over 200 years ago. In addition to the reconstructed fort, a visitor center and museum are also located on the site, housing hundreds of artifacts discovered during archaeological digs of the battlefield.

Not up to the par of National forts. You can not use your senior National parks pass. An earthen fort. It's being restored. The attached museum is good, nice displays and very good historical information. Open Wednesday to Saturday 9:30- 5:00 and Sunday 12 - 5:00. The musket firing was good and the "soldier" very informative. The exhibits inside the fort are okay. Hopefully they will continue to upgrade the interior of the fort. The workers were great and friendly. We were still glad we made the trip and if you enjoy the history you will too.

There is so much excitement during the game and between innings. Pick a night with fireworks or running the bases! After the game, you can grab a drink or a snack to finish your day!

I have spent a lot of hours at this place. The main building has exhibits inside and programs for the kids. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The place is absolutely quiet most week days unless they have a group. The window facing the back is my favorite place. Wrote a lot of sermons and journal entries back here. The train goes by every now and then. The birds, squirrels and an occasional deer can all be viewed from that huge back window.
On nice days there are several paths to walk on. They are not very long but very nice.

Wildwood Preserve Metropark

Preserve contains one of the best tall-grass prairies in Ohio plus a wealth of activities and attractions including a boardwalk, covered bridge, 100-year old schoolhouse and a hiking trail that connects to the University/Parks Trail.

Well, Mioses33, I drove from more than an hour away and I enjoyed my visit to Wildwood Preserve. Toledo has an impressive group of metroparks and strolling through any of them beats driving on any Toledo highway. No matter how you try to get through it seems there is always construction, traffic jams, or both. I view the city simply as an obstacle on the way north. so it was a nice surprise to find this welcome oasis on Central just east of 475. Yes, there are deer all over Ohio, but it is still fun to run across them in the wild. The people in the park office were proud of their park and were very helpful in giving me tips of things to see and do. One mentioned that you can sometimes see river otters from the boardwalk on the Floodplain Trail, so I made a point of going there. Didn't see any otters but did see a bunch of deer fairly close to the trail. Also hiked the Prairie Trail with nice views of the ravines and the Highland Woods loop. Only drawback was you could hear the traffic roaring along the 475 expressway. which made me appreciate the deer and other wildlife more. The restroom building at the park visitors center used to be an old barn so in a nice touch the brushed nickel water spouts on the sinks are in the form of pump handles. Overall this a beautiful park with trails and ctiviites for just about everyone, although not all trails can be used by bikes or wheel chairs.
