While crowds of tourists fill Venice, Florence and Rome, Bologna remains relatively quiet in comparison. This medieval university town is charming, historic and fun to explore… and you'll find Bologna's local cuisine is light-years away from the American deli meat bearing the city's name.

From start to finish, this was a great visit. We were met off the yellow line bus and given our own age appropriate tour of the excellent exhibition on man’s affect on the world. Our boys enjoyed all the interactive elements such as making fish for the collage and manufacturing games. And it’s all free, including complementary drinks at the cafe. Fantastic.

More than 25 years of history as one of the oldest “fitness temple” under the name of Pluricenter, with the recent opening of the wellness pools is now an even bigger structure. The bicarbonate-sulphate-calcic water continues the tradition of the spa in Bologna (the first “calidarium” was built by Emperor Augustus) and updates it to the new century, in a pleasant and variegated location. For fitness and wellness, in gym and in pools, Terme San Luca is the right place.

The Terme Felsinee spa centre, the first of the Mare Termale Bolognese spas, uses two types of spa water (bicarbonate-sulphate-calcic and sulphureous). Terme Felsinee offers spa baths, wellness packages, water-based courses for all requirements (from basic fitness to functional rehabilitation), inhalation and respiratory cures, as well as specialised health-care and physiotherapy.
