When we were passing through Ramnathapuram to Rameshwaram, my who ws traveling with me got to know about it and we planned to visit this temple after Rameshwaram Darshan. This temple is nearly 30 min bus ride from Ramnathapuram Centrl Bus Station (You can find buses to and fro). If you are not used to of crowded buses then you should hire a taxi. This temple is believed to be the world's oldest (first) shiva temple a claimed by temple authorities. Tis temple is also famous for its Nataraja idol made of Emerald stone, which is covered with sandal paste for 11 months except the month of January in which it i cleaned and kept as it is for Darshana. It is also believed that Ravana & Mandodari got married here in this temple. Few people say that the shiva linga Natraja iol was established by Ravana himself. Whatever this temple is a must visit place if you are going to rameshwaram. It has many resemblances with rameshwaram temple from the architecture point of view. Reviewed By Voyager791473 - Chennai (Madras), India

If one is looking for either health rejuvanation or treatment of any ailment , the best place to go over the years have always been AVP ,which offers the best ayurvedic treatment In the presence of Lord Dhanvanthri The God of healing who is enshrined in a beautiful temple inside this hospital complex. Dhanvanthri is the Hindu god of medicine and an avatar of Lord Vishnu. As per the Hindu mythology he is mentioned in the puranas as the god of Ayurveda . He, during the  Samudramanthan arose from the ocean of milk  with the nectar of immortality.According to the hindu epics ,Ramayana and Bhagavata Dhanvantari emerged from the ocean of milk with the pot of Amrut ,the nectar for immortality ,while the ocean was being churned by the devas and Asuras using the Mandara mountain as laddle and the serpent Vasuki as the rope .The pot of Amrita was snatched by the Asuras, and after this event another avatar Mohini , appears and takes the nectar back from the Asuras. It is also believed that Dhanvantari promulgated the practise of Ayurveda through the text in Dhanvanthri Nighantu which gives complete details of medicinal plants in nature that is used to prepare ayurvedic medicines prescribed for patients .He is also a great surgeon, who taught Ayurvedic Surgery to Susrutha, the Father of Ayurvedic Surgery. Lord Dhanwantari is the Presiding deity of Vaidyas of Ayurveda in this temple that gives a spiritual background to the Ayurvedic Tradition of Treatment in the Arya Vaidya Chikitsalayam located in this campus. This temple is constructed as per kerala temple architecture and Vaasthu Sasthra with Lord Dhanwantari, the God of Life & Medicine as the main deity along with other deities like Maha Ganapathy , Sastha, Shiva ,Bhagavathy, krishnan , Anjaneyar ,Murugan and Navagrahas and also boasts of a majestic Dhwaja-Stampha and number of Lamps . In this Temple Lord Dhanvanthri gives darshan with the Chakra, Sankh, Jaluka and the Amrita Kalasa in his four hands. The temple was initially constructed by AVP to provide religious solace and a serene atmosphere to those visiting the Chikitsalayam for treatment  but over time it has become renowned for pilgrims visiting from all over the world to seek his blessings and grace . Here Hindus worships Dhanvantari to seek his blessings for sound and robust health for themselves and for family members especially on  Dhanwantari Trayodashi. Dhanwantari Trayodashii Kumara every year is celebrated as "National Ayurveda Day" in India Personally speaking I and my better half take an annual pilgrimage and Ayurvedic treatment for rejuvanation of our health lasting from 10 days to 21 days based on availability of accommodation (Cottages ,twin bed rooms both Ac deluxe & Ac double, Single ,double non ac & dormitories )at AVP complex . This AVP has become so famous world over It is not surprising to see that it is patronised by people from all over India and abroad with most visiting , every year as a pilgrimage . The spiritual atmosphere of the place can be felt by one and all by observing the trees of life around the temple. Come sun down the trees get filled with thousands of birds who come to rest for the night from far and wide and by sunrise most of them have flown off before sun rise .They fill the entire atmosphere with divine sounds abd as night falls they too fall silent . Speaking of AVP in whose campus this temple is built was founded in 1943 by late arya vaidyan P.V Rama variar , who was a humanitarian, philosopher and physician par excellence. He was instilled with rare insight ,vision and zeal and due to his untiring efforts, AVP group of institutions are today rendering yeoman service in providing genuine ayurvedic services to the needy to people world over. AVP also produces in house , more than 450 traditional ayurvedic medicines in its state-of-the-art manufacturing units. These medicines are prescribed by ayurvedic physicians in more than 700 centers all over india and are even sent to patients the world over. It offers classical ayurvedic medicines and authentic ayurvedic treatments and therapies to patients from all over india and abroad for various ailments with phenomenal results .  what started essentially as a village clinic has now grown into a multi- disciplinary and a multi-crore organisation in the field of Ayurveda an ancient hindu practice.
