10 Things to do in Raffles Place That You Shouldn't Miss

January 8, 2022 Ying Subia

The Singapore cityscape looks like it was ripped from the pages of a science fiction comic book. If you’re hungry for a true Singapore experience, sample the myriad street foods or take a cultural cooking class. The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, and the observation deck of the Sands SkyPark makes you feel like you’re high above the clouds. The banks and walkways along the Singapore River bustle with local activity.

My husband and I visited on a friday between 8pm and 10pm. We were very surprised (pleasantly so) by the $40pp cover charge which got us 2 drinks, access to the rooftop bar and an excellent live band. It was fairly quiet, presumably coronavirus related, and we were quite early, so had perfect access to the astonishing views over Singapore. The views alone make this well worth a visit, but the live band was an added bonus. Thoroughly recommend.

Boat Quay

Reviewed By CrosbyONG - Singapore, Singapore

Not too long back in Singapore’s dramatic young history (70s) as an independent city-state, Boat Quay was the epicentre of the aquatic trade of Singapore’s economy. What is now rows of F&Bs were godowns (warehouses) and shop-houses. This river mouth was crowded with bum oats and river-taxis, half-naked baled-bodied men transferring cargos between boats and warehouses. Hence, my special love of this place as a local born of how fortunate I am to witness the unbelievable rapid transformation of Singapore.

Not a customer of UOB but dropped by the visit the UOB Painting of the Year Exhibition. Stunning works on display of various mediums - including leather - stunning work of faces by Somchai Sidamon. Another entitled wastescape depicts space waste - intriguing and masterfully created by Chaichana Luetralun. Plenty of other art works that are equally attractive. Clearly a lot of talent on display. Opposite on the ground floor is Paris Baguette - I had a nice lunch there. As you exit the building onto UOB Square you will see a massive sculpture by Salvador Dali - an artists delight. Great visit.

Bird

Reviewed By KitoBA - Sydney, Australia

I sought out this bird sculpture because I absolutely love Fernando Botero's work, the sculptor of this impressive piece of art. I love how he makes everything fat! It was a bit of a challenge to get to and it didn't help that it was at night. It can seem unimpressive if just walking by. Perhaps it could have been better presented or situated, but nonetheless I enjoyed and appreciated it. The good news is if you're a Botero fan, there's another more grander set of sculptures you can see on Sentosa Island which I highly recommend! And these ones I accidentally ran into.
