Togo Bay Beach

Located in the beautiful place called Salento, among sandy paths and untouched nature, Togo Bay is an oasis of emotions between the dunes and the sea to enjoy the sun and the beach in perfect relaxation.

Reviewed By AMKRome - Rome, Italy

Togo Beach is a magical, whimsical place. It's strange because just when you think you've reached paradise just by being at the splendid ionian coast of Puglia, you discover that Togo Beach is a paradise within a paradise. So let me get all the essentials out of the way. The beach is superbly clean, the water is crystal clear (almost puts the Caribbean to shame), and the beach facilities are comfortable, high-end, and above-all COVID ready 100 percent. But what may not be stated enough or come across in all the other reviews is how amazing the service is. You order lunch and drinks? They are there in less than ten minutes. And not because the food is not fresh, it was and also delicious and healthy. The amazing staff of Togo bay have one thing in mind, and they execute it with strategic focus: that you have a good time, and leave wanting to come back. There is no loud overpowering music here. But sophisticated, beach vibes played at just the right time. There are no obnoxious party animals, but everyone seems to be at the party of their lives. And a nice mix of Italian and international guests. As well as a nice mix of families, young adults, and beyond. Now, I judge a place not by when things are going well, but when there is a glitch. One one of the days we were there, we arrived later than the designated hold time for your beach reservations, and they had rightly given it away. But even though they were booked to capacity, they did not let us walk away and managed to create something for us. And finally, when we were half way back home form Puglia, they called to say I had forgotten my ID at reception. Any ordinary place would have posted it back. But because this is TOGO bay, they couriered it and it was in my mail box the next day I was back home. Thank you Togo Bay for a wonderful post-lockdown beach holiday. See you in 2021!

Centro Storico, Lecce

... and caffè leccese. The baroque architecture in Lecce’s historic centre is wonderful. The most impressive way to enter the old town is via one of the historic gates. Porta Napoli or Porta Rudiae on the west, Porta San Biagio on the east. Entering the old town from the Porta Rudiae takes you directly to the Piazza del Duomo, for the Cattedrale di Lecce with its double facade and five-storey campanile, then onward to the Sant’Oronzo Column, a Roman column topped with a bronze statue of the city’s patron saint and the sunken Roman amphitheater. Don’t however leave it at that! Take your time to amble through the narrow streets of the old town, crossing from the historic gates that allow you to enter or leave. The great thing is that you can do it all in an afternoon, with time for some aperitivi and dinner, although more time is recommended. Be sure to stop off for Lecce’s most famous pastry, the pasticciotto, a crumbly pie-type pastry traditionally filled with an egg custard, though sometimes with jam, Nutella (of course) or crema di pistacchio or a mix of these. Take it with a caffè leccese - another Puglia classic. A shot of espresso served over ice and with almond “milk” (it’s actually an almond syrup). The old town is packed full of good restaurants and busy bars. It is where we go to shop, with some of our favourite boutiques (there is no concept of "high street" here).

Centro Storico di Gallipoli

Reviewed By Bandit-One - Lucerne, Switzerland

We stayed in the south for a few nights. Only 30' aways was Gallipoli, so we thought we should check this old town out. And what a great visit it turned out to be. Parked our car not far from the old town and crossed the bridge leading to the Centro Storico. The impressive Castello welcomes you when you enter this amazing historic town. Take the Via Antoniette de Pace or the smaller Via XXIV Maggio and head to the impressive Duomo, the Basilica Concattedrale di Sant'Agata Vergine e Martire. The streets and lanes are quite narrow, so you have to step back a bit to appreciate the beauty of the Duomo. Countless shops and restaurants can be found. It's sure worth to get lost a bit in this maze - especially when you head a bit to the western part of the old town. That's where many locals have their homes. Less tourists, but just fun to wander the small streets. Also nice to walk around this peninsula. Amazing ocean views with the bluest and greenest water you could think of. Some good restaurants with ocean views (try the Trattoria Scoglio delle Sirene). Besides the big sights, the whole old town itself is a sight of its own. We loved it. Fantastic town, sure well worth a (longer) drive.

Spiaggia di Punta Prosciuto

Reviewed By melapage - Vicenza, Italy

We visited the beach twice and each time enjoyed ourselves. In the area called Le Dune there is a nice snack bar that offers decent food at a good price. Only downside is the continual parade of beach traders selling anything from bags to bows and arrows. Great weather and fantastic clear water. Sandy beach.
