Nicopolis is an ancient city that was built on 31 B.C by Octavios after the batle of Aktio. If you translate it from Greek to English Nicopolis, means the city of victory. It is placed just outside the town of Preveza. It is great for someone that is interested in ancient history to visit that place. Also the museum that they recently built near the ancient city of Nicopolis is one of the most moderate and intresting musuems in Greece.
It is the best cultural heritage monument in Preveza. However, the new Nicopolis museum is not very close to the ancient city of Nicopolis. It is quite far away. The visitor might have the wrong impression that there is not any museum. On the contrary, the museum was recently built and it stands among the "must-do" in Preveza.

Though the Acheron River is generally calm and suitable for all skill levels, the trained staff at Acheron Kayak conducts short training sessions on land to familiarize participants with the equipment, how to position themselves in the kayak and how to row the vessel correctly. Life jackets are handed out and we all enter the water in our kayaks. Next, trainers teach participants how to maneuver their kayaks in all directions. This takes place at our base next to the river, where the water is calm and resembles a lake, offering ideal conditions for a few practice runs.Once everyone feels comfortable, our excursion begins. The head guide leads the way and it is important that everyone is able to control their own kayak. We travel downriver at starting speed of 4 kilometres per hour. As we near the sea, the speed gradually decreases. Our journey takes us through some of the most breathtaking scenery throughout the country. Feel free to bring a camera along and snap shots as you navigate your kayak through aquamarine waters and encounter a variety and plants and animals. We provide a waterproof bag where you can store your camera safely throughout the duration of the journey.Reaching the village Ammoudia marks the end of our kayaking trip, but gives you the opportunity for a refreshing swim in the Ionian Sea before our transportation arrives to take us back to the base.
Fair price, thoroughly relaxing...and just as interesting as you want to make it !! My wife and I signed up for the 10 am tour...fantastic just the 2 of us plus our own guide and temperature still nice and cool.
Easy to find the base near Mesapotamos. Short warm up, for laughs and demo on water. Then set off into unknown....no need to paddle really. Guide points out Turtles, Beavers, Kingfishers other birds and nests. We saw no snakes but an abundance of basking frogs, butterflies and dragonflies. Which I insisted on paddling back to photo on Macro Setting !
Completely safe for all ages....a must do if in this area of Greece !!!!

It is worth taking the detour to Zalongo, although the mount is visible for miles around. The history behind the momument is poignant and tragic in the extreme, and the monument is a fitting tribute to those amazing women.
Park at the monastery (just up the hill from the Kassope ruins), be brave and climb the 400 steps to the top of the mount. Make sure you take water if it is hot, but it is worth the effort for a close-up view of the monument and a magnificent view over the bay, Preveza and across to the Islands of Antipaxos and Paxos.
A fitting way to honour the memory of the Souliot women.

After you've been thru most of the port towns and walk a bit away from the port you hit the smaller side streets. We were there during the day, perhaps in the evening its livelier. Little restaurants and shops. Not much different than other places.

This church dating back to 1780 is a prime example of the Ionian architecture that characterizes a myriad of churches throughout the area. These include the rounded wall to the east and the fact that its basilica consists of a single open space. Another Ionian attribute are the painted barriers along the floor. Impressive paintings can also be seen on the walls and the ceiling which depict scenes of Jesus’ miracles as well as various Old Testament stories.

My husband and I enjoy going to this beach several times a week. It is a long sandy beach. It is nice to take children to as it does not get deep quickly. There are many tavernas along the beach as well as hotels. There is also the Club Mango which serves food and drinks, providing lounges and umbrellas at no cost, only must purchase at the Club. There is also a a naturalist beach within easy walking distance.

Our time together 16/6/17 was very special. It began at a taverna where a class was given on making tazeki, then enjoying the tazeki with bread, mussels, and ouzo, we all laughed and talked, then took a walking tour of old town Preveza, seeing historical buildings, old embassies, and streets. Also, we were given the history of the sites. We stopped and looked over the water where the war between Oktavian, Cleopatra, and Mark Anthony took place. Then it was off to Pantokratora to see the old Castle and, more history. We returned to the restaurant to enjoy a meal together.
What a great evening it was together!
