Prachuap Khiri Khan (Thai: ประจวบคีรีขันธ์, pronounced [prā.t͡ɕùa̯p.kʰīː.rīː.kʰǎn]) is a town in southern Thailand. It is the capital of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province and is on the coast at one of the narrowest stretches in Thailand, only 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the Burmese border at Dan Sing Khon in the Tenasserim Hills. The area has large pineapple and coconut industries, in addition to being popular with Thai tourists. The town is 291 km south of Bangkok by road.

We visited in the early morning at first light, and were practically the only visitors. The serenity of rustling leaves and beautiful views made us hardly notice the hour's trek/climb. Part of the way, we were accompanied by a cute, mangy dog-guide who trotted before us and waited for us to catch up - we rewarded her with some breakfast after the climb!
Reaching the cave was magical, the temple bathed in natural light and highlighting the majesty of the surrounding, impossibly slender and tall trees. The temple was commissioned by King Chulalongkorn, apparently after being charmed by the mystical beauty of this place - and it's easy to see why. Wonder if he was carried here on a sedan though, can't imagine him making the trek. This was definitely a bucket-list experience for me!
If you intend to walk all the way instead of taking a longboat at the beginning, allow about 2 to 2.5 hours for the experience. There's tasty breakfast at the restaurant at the start of the cave with the best coconut shake we had in Thailand.

Its an airforce camp with a beautifull beach,
Has many restaurants, shops selling crafts, beach wear and beach utensils.
Its great for a day out picnic, or walk. Has been well looked after with no dogs roaming the area.
Allthough you are not allowed to leave your dog off the lease or allow it to swim in the sea, there are wardens on patrol.
Interesting planes on display from world wars.
Horses and other animals can be viewd near the beach area.
There is also a golf course with a few hundred baht fee and a nice hotel.

The cave is accessible via a steep concrete trail (no monkeys!) containing a large reclining Buddha with smaller Bhuddas in a 2nd cave. At the entrance you can insert THB10 to light the cave for 20 minutes or you need a torch. The lovely teak temple at ground level contains beautiful coloured bas relief murals on the walls. The temple is set in grounds with a variety of fruit trees plus a lotus pond.

This is a really beautiful place with lovely views and nice sounding temple bell. It is hard to enjoy the beauty though as the macaques can be quite aggressive and try to snatch cameras etc. We visited on dawn and they certainly were very active, trying even to take my sandals from my feet when walking. We carried a large stick which they respected - not to hurt them, just to show them that we wouldn't tolerate bullying. When showing the stick, they showed their teeth but did let us go. It didn't help much not having any foods or drinks - they would have taken even the shoes without the stick.

We were initially told we could not enter this area but we just drove straight in. It is clearly a military area but the locals definitely use this place especially the beach area which is lovely. Lots of eating places opposite the beach if required but not for us.

Driving past and noticed it from the road, stopped and went in. Unfortunately there is no information in English so after a quick wander and a few photos which have already been published we moved on. Not really worth making a special visit for.

The hike to the top is worth it for the panoramic views. I see a lot of comment about the monkeys. However, I brought an umbrella along and there were no issues with the monkeys. An umbrella is the perfect instrument to wield if you feel threatened. The monkeys completely avoided me and I did not have to act aggressively toward them to keep them at bay. The bigger issue is the monkey feces scattered all the way up the stairs to the top--you have to keep aware where you are stepping every step of the climb.

This place is 13 km south from Phraya Nakhon cave. Very easy to reach. But totally worth it. Those 2 temples are magical surrounded with nature. You can watch the monkey and the dogs playing all day long around. And even to hike up to the mountain to take some amazing pictures. I am so glad that I found this place!
