Portimao is a sailor’s delight, thanks to its calm waters and beautiful conditions. Plenty of elite international competitions happen here, but you don’t have to be a professional to set sail. Cruising the coast on the double-masted Santa Bernarda pirate ship is a family favorite. On dry land, you can wander the lovely Alvor boardwalk, enjoy a succulent seafood meal or zip around the go-kart track at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

Set in a former sardine processing factory, the museum is divided into two areas. One half tells the history of Portimao from prehistory to modern times. The other half explains the processes involved in the sardine canning industry, using the actual equipment and location where it all happened. English captions throughout, and good use of video to make production stages clear. Also houses temporary display space, and good cafe/restaurant. Check out the joint ticket arrangements with other local historical sites, and note that there is free entrance on Sundays.

First time here and we were pleasantly surprised by everything, the beach which is huge and clean, the atmosphere which is relaxed, and we enjoyed our 4 days there, the only point would be the climb, 96 steps, up to the road level, Albufeira have sorted it out with an escalator why not here ? apart from that the top level goes from quiet to busy areas there is plenty to see and do for most tastes, the beach level boardwalk is a must as are is the cliff views, we stayed at the Marina and again what a lovely place scenic and always something happening, so we would return without a doubt and there are plenty of end of season deals with accommodation.

You find the race track set on a private road heading towards Monchique.. We couldnt get in to the race track as Porche was testing their new electric cars..... However the Go Karting track was open... this was awesome.. 3 different tracks to choose from and it was quiet when we was there, so we had it to ourselves... Mint.... HAd a great time... we did 15 / 20 mins which cost us just 27euros.... great fun.... have to come back to see a F1 race...... great location... ON Monchique you can see the race track set in the valley looking towards Portimao.....

We viewed the beach from a lookout above the beach that went along the cliffs above the beach. The views were absolutely incredible. Later we walked the beach and explored but the views are better from above

We were lucky enough to stay in the pink villa approx 20m from this beach. Our 3yr old son was fascinated in the mornings by watching the tractors racking the sand. It is a great family Beach with plenty of bars and snack places near by. We experienced a particularly high tide in October so the waves were at times pretty choppy and large. Would recommend this beach over the busier resorts nearby.
