Port Orchard is a city in and the county seat of Kitsap County, Washington, United States. It is located 13 miles due west of West Seattle and connected to Seattle and Vashon Island via the Washington State Ferries run to Southworth. It is named after Port Orchard, the strait that separates Bainbridge Island from the Kitsap Peninsula.

We took our 7 & 9 year old grandkids, along with our son and daughter-in-law. All, including my wife and I, enjoyed the self-guided tour. Any kid will enjoy getting hands on all the hundredsof dials, cranks, etc. There were also some great old salt docents aboard to answer questions. You have virtually total access to all parts of the ship, including the big deck guns. The components are well-labeled, so you don't have to guess what you're seeing. Baby Boomers will appreciate some of the history of the Viet Nam conflict explained in parts of the ship and the explanation of the part this ship played. There is lots of ladder climbing involved, so much of the shp will be inaccessible to those with limited mobility.

Gor-gee-ous! This park is the perfect destination for a day trip. It's an easy drive from Seattle, and yet we felt like we were a world away.
Lots of picnic tables (some under trees,) two roofed reservable picnic shelters, and most tables with views of the water. A bonus was seeing a ferry sailing by while we ate our lunch!
The hiking paths included water vistas and the unmistakable sound of sea lions on the buoys in the passage. Next time, we're bringing binoculars for a closer look. The historic torpedo shelter and battery are remnants of this former fort that once protected the Bremerton Naval Shipyards.
Now that we've found this gem, we'll definitely be back!

We happen on this marvelous collection of military history by happenstance and enjoyed it very much. It is a "hole-in-the wall" place chuck full of good stuff. We took time to look, read and absorb what was there. This collection is worth a walk through. We actually spent quite a while there even though it is tiny in area. Maybe it wouldn't be as much fun if it was more spacious. It was like a treasure hunt for us. Not sure about the hours it is open.

I love most museums dedicated to our military and this was no exception. There were some great exhibits. I especially was fascinated by the baseball players in the navy exhibit. Had no idea that so many famous major league players were in the service back in the day. We were short on time and could have spent a lot more of it here.

This property is all part of the Kitsap County parks and while there is the historic farm with buildings there I am just reviewing the dog park. This is a very nice rural park where dogs can safely run free in a large fenced area that includes a meadow and forest area. There are decent trails and benches to sit on (well for the humans that is) and on wet days there will be mud puddles to let the dogs get really dirty! They do not have water but friends of the park provide water in milk jugs and visitors are encouraged to take home some empty jugs and return on the next trip with fresh water to share which is a great concept. There is also a couple of poop baggie dispenser stations and trash cans at the gate.
Bring your dog and let them burn off some energy and you will enjoy the fresh air!

I was born in Bremerton & can remember when this was the only bridge to the east side, Manette, that we had. I guess that if you were from Kansas & had never seen saltwater that you might think the view from this bridge was great. The bridge itself is not a destination, not a must see & definitely not an attraction. At least the old black iron bridge had some class. Nothing to see here, yet Manette, on the east end of the bridge, offers some of the best restaurants in the county & from here you can drive to Illahee State Park.

Housed in the town's original Masonic Hall and located a block up the hill from downtown Port Orchard and the marina, the Sidney Art Gallery is a terrific place to find artistic treasures by renowned and emerging artists. Each month, the Gallery features a different exhibition of works of Northwest artists, while the Museum upstairs features vignettes of long ago Port Orchard.

Located in the original Masonic Hall of the city of Sidney, now Port Orchard. There's a collection of art downstairs and the museum upstairs. I'm a fan of these small local museums. Right now it's overstuffed: everything not quite curated and some work still being done. Lots of interesting items from hundred plus years. I'll check it out again in a couple years. Even so, worth a few minutes as you're wandering around town.

Our 2-year-old mostly enjoyed the swimming turtles, but we were able to pry him away long enough to enjoy the amphibian display. Sadly, the snakes were awesome but didn't move much, so our son didn't notice how cool they were. He did like the lizards though...just until he escaped back to the turtle tank. We appreciated the step stools at most of the displays so he could stand on his own to look rather than being held the whole time. While we expected him to like the bugs, those were mostly a bother for him (he wanted to go back to the turtles), but we certainly were intrigued by the many bugs on display. We'll return when our son is older and can appreciate the uniqueness of this museum.

We went here on two different occasions this summer. The first was to bbq and hang out with the grandbabies. We had a great time. The park, beach and bathrooms were all clean and kept up.
The second time we used the public boat launch and fished from our kayaks. We had a nice time on the water, however, there were to many motorized boats for us to really enjoy the lake fishing.
We will visit again, we will visit again.

We have driven past this place dozens of times. It comes up so quickly it's easy to miss. it looks like a dump from the road (actually was a landfill at one time) but behind the door is a spectacular gift shop followed by an amazing bonsai garden. Both the gift shop and garden are huge- they keep going and going with more fabulous things to look at. I am not a bonsai enthusiast or much of a gardener but it's fascinating to see the ages of the trees and the interesting shapes they have taken. The location is beautiful and the gardens are probably beautiful at any time of the year, but particularly nice now with the spring/summer flowers. if you are looking for a special gift for a woman the gift shop should have something! tons of gorgeous jewelry, glassware, knick knacks and pretty doo-dahs!
