Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company

Reviewed By Frederick H

Okay, I get it. If you want to get to CT from middle Long Island, then this is the way to go. The Orient Point Ferry takes you to New London, which is much further North and Bridgeport.
And I guess you could award it "Excellence" because it always stays on top of the water. But, the ferries are dated inside, uncomfortable seats, smelly rest rooms, VERY unhealthy food, liquor, wine and beer (not the best idea for people who are driving)and the worse part NO INTERNET. I mean, come on, how hard would it be to provide WiFi on these boats? So, Yeah, I will continue to use it because I have no choice. And perhaps the issues I described above will remain because the Steamboat Company knows there is no competition. So why bother?

I first visited Benner's Farm 27 years ago. I brought my daughter to a mommy and me there. We would return spring summer and fall to learn about this awesome place. All three of my children have gone to classes, summer camp and even had birthday parties there. I will visit again soon bringing my grand niece.
If you live in the area don't miss this place.

Cedar Beach

Cedar has always been my favorite north shore beach. It always feels like that even if it's crowded, like July 4th, there is still plenty of space on the beach. It's great for younger kids because there usually isn't a strong undertow. Most of the time everyone's polite, friendly, and neat.

Three Village Historical Society

Reviewed By Steve T - Sayville, New York

Setauket, Long Island is steeped in history, particularly from the American Revolutionary War. As evidenced in the AMC series, "TURN;Washinton's Spies". The historical walk hosted by 'Abraham Woodhull' was not only informative and dispelled some of the television skewed facts, but it was fun. The group was medium sized (approximately 25 people of varying ages) and everyone was captivated by our 'host'. The walk was about 2 hours long starting at the Carolina Church and then meandered through the parks and byways of historical Setauket. In addition to sites on the walk, our host also pointed out other locations nearby, which we were able to visit on our own leisure. This is a great time for all and add another star if you're a history buff

Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages

Reviewed By Irma G - Smithtown, New York, United States

This delightful museum keeps growing and growing, due to the donations of many benefactors. The carriage Museum has an extensive three level exhibit of carriages from the 18th century to the early 20th century. There are quite a few buildings on the grounds, including an old schoolhouse, an old cemetery, trees with crocheted decorations and an art museum. The art museum houses temporary collections, and at this time there was a Judith Lieber exhibit. A docent was available to explain the history of the pocketbooks and of her husband's paintings. Outside the carriage house is a lovely garden, and during the summer there are dramatic performances.

A great place to relax but you need to go early to secure a table or bring your own folding chair. Don't go for the food though, its very basic and slightly expensive. There is a fishing store attached for grab and go fishing things like bait.
